Most desirable 747-400 biz class seats

Which are the most desirable business class seats on the 747-400? I have my friend booked on 11A for LAX-SYD-LAX (was 7A and 9A originally).

Thanks

My wife and I flew AKL-LAX-LHR in 11 A&B. This is upstairs by the emergency exit. The seats are very good although 11 J or K would be better. I'm not sure how Air NZ get away with this from a safety point of view but 11 A&B encroach on the emergency exit by about 18 inches. This does not affect legroom but it means you do not have a window. Also access to the side bin is restricted as it is almost behind the seat. I would class them as second best behind 11 J/K.

Terenz,

This is just my opinion from a number of flights in J.

Upstairs - Upstairs is good but always crowded, often you get better service being downstairs if the plane is not full. Also overhead bins are very restrictive upstairs, but you can store larger bags in coat rack.

7 - great for privacy but you do have the cockpit door infront and sometimes that can be annoying with the door and light opening and closing. Legroom is still good despite this being a bulkhead.

8-10 - no probs here, std seats

11 exit aisle, tons of legroom, although in J on NZ you get 50" anyway which is a large amount anyway.

12 - same as 8-10

13-14 stay clear of these, they are near the toilet and the galley so lots of light and constant annoyance of the toilet flushing and pax talking at the bag. Worst J seats on the plane, IMHO. Also 14 does not have full recline, slightly less.

Downstairs

15 - bulkhead, still plenty of legroom, but near the toilets and F/P galley.

16-18 - good seats

19 rear seats may not have the full recline.

That is genarlly it, you can get the idea from the NZ seat map at www.airnz.co.nz

Mark

Thanks all

I've sat all over the place in 744s and have had a few experiences. On the main deck of a BA one, there seems to be an annoying pump (high pitched whirl) that is irritating.

Didn't know that NZ's upper deck toilets are in the rear. I thought they were in the front of 744s.

It'll still be a treat for my friend as it's the first time for her in an international premium cabin.

BTW, my usual is a CP 744 that has 65" pitch so anything less is restrictive.
