Canarsie a one time charge of $1.00 to belong to a board such as FT is a totally reasonable request. It would weed out the people that post under multiple handles that have disrupted the boards.

Would it? If I really enjoyed cheesing people off, is $1.00 really going to be a detterent?

The only way it possibly could be is a "three-strikes and you're out rule" with a warning for strike one, a two-week suspension for strike two, and permanent ban of that account for strike three.

Of course, this forum would be flooded with complaints about moderator's actions, as people protested their warnings and (when they come back) suspensions.

And in the end, it's only $1. So as my accounts are suspended and terminated, I can just start all over. It's only $1. If I really like cheesing people off, it's a small price to pay.

And yes, I believe their have been (and currently are) FTers who really do enjoy cheesing people off. People with thousands of posts to their names.

Going to $10 with the above three-strikes rules probably would put a serious dent in the number of "trolls", but it would also put a serious dent in the number of posters, I imagine.

One year and 3000+ posts in, I'd happily pay $10 a month for this service, much less $10 period. But that is because I have come to see how (generally) valuable this service is to me. But just coming in cold and being asked to pay $10... I might not have anted-up...

Pleas read this thread from start to finish. The $1.00 vs. $10.00 arguement is meaningless. The $1.00 is used soley to cover any verifcation fees which may exist. Once you are verified, it becomes more difficult to register with a second name as verfication in most cases will show you are already registered.

Prepaid credit cards, virtual account numbers, one of the other 20 credit cards you usually have, the neighbours credit cards, your sons credit card etc... etc...

They would have the same person's last name and that would put a red flag on the poster until it is checked out. Some of the examples that you have given are a little far fetched. I seriously doubt if my neighbors will give me their CC to register. Scott, there is always a way to beat the system, but this would eliminate the majority of the problem makers.

I am not disputing whether the Troll Toll is reasonable or unreasonable, nor am I stating my position on either side of the issue.

I was merely providing an attempt at levity when I called the Attacks Tax the Troll Toll, thats all.

I agree there are currently people who have been here for years and are so bitter that thier real enjoyment is to attack. Especially those who have different views from there own.

TO GET THE THREAD BACK ON TRACK.... it is veering >>>>>

This issue is about verification system and stopping members from having multiple user names.

I am not confident that the board operators currently use all of their available resources to "uncover" multiple-handle trolls.

Not a criticism, but I think the $$-based verification system could be an easier sell if Randy & Co. exploited their current assets more assertively.

I assume they have better things to do, and I don't know that a few thousand bucks will really change their priorities, regardless of this incremental level of new information.
