Well I didn't answer your inquiry but here is my vote and I would hazard to guess it is so for the ones that did not respond - I DO NOT want the AC forum to be moderated and agree with Ken Haamer's points above. If you don't like the forum then feel free to leave.

Wow, it does seem that any warnings from flyertalk had no effect. If this isn't an attack, I'm not sure I know what is?<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by parnel:

Let me get this right...you are asking me to leave? What authority do you have? Look I don't know you and I can care less of what you think of me but one thing for sure, don't make it sound as though what you believe is the majority's view.<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by Altaflyer:

And I can say this as well to further a point that Ken put forward. A lot of people on Air Canada forum has considerbly diminished their participation because:
1) The forum is like a chaos with a lot of irrelevant discussions not related to travel or miles which is the prime purpose of Flyertalk
2) An influx of flame wars and inability to stay on topic
3) People like you who don't think before they speak and thus prompting many knowledgeable people stay shut and withold information at the detriment of all members
It's your loss not mine and please, if this is the kind of place you like to hang out, I want none of it. Thank you very much.
A side note, silence is irreleavnt. This topic is not about the need of a moderator for the AC forum. I promise, as much as I hate to do it, I will start a thread disclosing the discussions, information and questions raised during the e-mail exchanges conducted about 2 months ago. I will also take it upon myself to organize the data in an efficient and clear manner for people to debate and discuss. In case you are wondering, it certainly wasn't a simple yes/no type of responses. The memebers who choose to participate, most of them took time to give detailed answers either they support or they are against. And all with very few exceptions, were very polite and thorough. And in case you are wondering, I don't even remember including Altaflyer on the list, it was based on people who partcipated in the discussion almost 6 months ago, I figured people who were in that discussion would be interested in talking about it.
It seems clear the Flyertalk homosexual clique is determined to hound somebody who doesn't share the same opinion of their lifestyle as they do. The Winger has it right, it's amazing how open minded the "open minded" are.
Keep the moderation away. The AC forum is indeed a self-policing community. If there are those that can't handle it getting a bit rough and tumble now and then, they should take their toys and go play elsewhere.
The folks that Guava and ML seem to be attacking are some of the most entertaining to read. Moderating the forum and shutting them down will indeed make it a dead forum.
And complaining about rants in the OMNI forum that have nothing to do with items posted in AC are irrelevant to those of us who are in the AC forum.
Perhaps a "real" poll should be taken. I think the answer would come through pretty crystal-clear.
Simon

And you'd think what you say isn't offensive? Look, if this thread has shown anything is that Flyertalk is certainly not what it used to be. Randy is a very busy person and I am sure he doesn't enjoy playing police either. The moderators have been great in doing their jobs of keeping the flames down or else this place would have imploded long time ago. However, there are only so much they can do.<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by LatteSeattle1K:

It has become clear to many people that an unmoderated forum like Air Canada is one of the worst places to hang out right now on Flyertalk. Flame wars aside, there is not much substances in most of the discussions taking place there. Or putting a thread in there where it could have received better and more answers when posting in the appropriate forum such as in TravelBuzz is an irresponsbile behavior that would disadvantage the collectivity of the members. You will see people just put OT in front of their topic and go on and posted in Air Canada, for what? Then again, who is doing this? A group of people who fears rules and order and prefer sort of state of anarchy sort to speak so that they can do whatever they want or say whatever they want like lawless land. I am afraid this is not for me. Maybe this is what Randy needs to clarify. Is this an acceptable norm on Flyertalk. If the answer is yes, fine, that's the way you want to do it, fine by me, but I want none of it. I will sure be able to make my choice. But when I look up the TOS of Flyertalk, what I read and understand and what I see is two totally different thing. Why would anyone or any forum be granted an exemption from the TOS?
I was against moderation in AC forum at first when Randy proposed it a few months ago. Because the Air Canada forum I knew then and the one that I know now is two different places. It used to be constructive, friendly, cohesive and foremost, one of the most helpful forum out there. Now, it's like a joke... And a forum is only going to be as good as the people make it to be. The crowd has changed too, several members like myself, and Ken said it too earlier, has posted less and less. Some people you see speaking in this thread against the need of a moderator has displayed the exact symptoms of the problem:
1) Inability to stay on topic
2) Rude or impolite
3) Or worse, inflammatory
Just look at this thread and check where they are from. I don't need to say more. Anyhow, I will do what I promised to do - I strated the process so I must finish it to keep my words. But to tell you the truth, I really hate it. I dont' want to do it because why should I be doing this? It's costing me time and this is not my job and I am not a Volunteer of Flyertalk. But as I said to another member during an e-mail who questionned why shouldn't Randy be starting this process, I said as a member of Flyertalk, we have the choice in our free will to try to improve the functionning of the forums in the best way we believe. I have an idea and I shared it with others to see if they like it and then if we have enough support, we can then present to the authority to seek their approval. Giving up in half-way is not me and it doesn't matter what some opposition might claim or say, no matter what's the outcome, at least the process must goes through. The outcome will be determined once everyone has a say and it's not here. I am not the one who is going to determine the outcome and it has never been my intention. What it would do however is Flyertalk will be able to see the process openly and determine what is the best to do from the data we have gathered and the views expressed by the members. I feel that's as far as I could go. After that, it's none of my business. At this point, I really don't care whether there is a moderator or not in the Air Canada forum. I wish I can care more. But the truth is, I really don't. I am going to repeat it one last time, the forum is going to be as strong as the people participating it - it's not the rules or the moderator(s) who is going to make it.

I have no authority but I do have the rights and ability to explain why you keep harassing me to the authority and ask them to rule on you. I hope this is clear. If you have complaint against me, feel free to do the same, it's your right too.<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by parnel:

No moderation needed. Some of the rants and personality conflicts are downright silly (like from people with very limited lives, oops inviting a flame), but they don't matter. As several have posted, this forum is pretty effective at self-policing, people who have something useful to contribute do so, and the occasional off topic post or theme just ads to the colour (canadian spelling!) of the forum.
Leave it alone, please.

Guava should just chill, rather than flame. It would solve a lot of these so-called "problems," I think. Maybe he's the one who really needs a time out.

I might not disagree with that and you know what, if I could, I'll bring you with me. Fair enough? Chill! You just offended a good portion of FT members with your anti-gay comment.<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by LatteSeattle1K:

parnel has been such a strong guardian of this tradition, he is married to a woman yet from other FTers, we know he seemd to have a special interest for leather and even inquired to another FTer during e-mail about a 'fun place' to go with a 'special friend' in Vegas.
This is, of course, ok by Guava's standards
And this meets the TOS here? And it is absolutely factual I trust.
Hope you both read my email of today on the subject.
Happy twitching.
