Caution! System is running extremely slow!
Is the vibrating form of this banner ad the worst, most annoying banner ad you've ever seen? Or is it just me?

That banner is very annoying - and way too heavy. 217277 bytes for a banner, that is quite a joke. No wonder your page loads slowly - I think it is set up so that the banner loads first and then the rest will load.

I have clicked on that banner 15 times, and my computer is running no faster at all as a result. What am I doing wrong?

Just received from FT techies: a response to my comment to them, also shown below:
XXXX,
Thanks for the heads-up on the banner ads. We've instructed out ad company to not serve those types of ads that shake and bounce around. I'll go see if I can find those ads and have them removed.
Sincerely,
Dan

Specific comments:
Been with FT since early 2001. I'm a several times a day lurker and learner. I post only when I can actually help. About 300 times.
I have a complaint about a particular banner ad which uses some kind of java script to make the image bounce around and catch the eye. But in this case, it's designed to assault the viewer so that you can look at nothing else. On top of that, it presents a falsehood, telling me that my system is dangerously low in memory. I think I might have enough memory to run the FT site for a while.
I know that FT needs this sort of income. But is it possible to exclude obtrusive ads which use java script in ways that the FCC might regulate if it appeared on TV? I think there is a way to do this, and it would be in your best interest to do so. Too many more incidents of this and I'll be checking once a week. The residual bad experience will drive FTers away.

Those Drug Free America ads are slow enough to make me smoke a joint out of boredom while I wait for the page to load!

Otto - EXACTLY ... the page seems to "hang" while those drug USA ads load up the multi question "Parents take this pop quiz" to answer.
I bet this is programmed into the banner coding. Unless Randy's vendor is paying a HUGE premium for the wasted time this causes all users, I'd love to see those deleted too if possible.
Has anyone else noticed that? JUST those banners for me causes the long load delays.
When I press "submit reply" now, as one of these durn banners is still there it takes at LEAST 60 seconds for page to load for me.
