Moderators....Please back off.!
A few days I posted a topic. ( http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/003089.html )
I posted this at 6.12 am and by 7.58am the moderators came in and lock the thread, on the grounds of being boring.!.
Well...let me say one thing ..back off.!.
These forum are run by the members that contribute, if the Mpderators are goimh to be topic police after and hour what chance do we have.?
The topic was relevant to me as I hade just had something stolen from a checked bag....I am going to complain to the TSA, I want to get an idea of the frequency of this type of event.
The moderators closed down threads for there own reason, i think they have and are going way to far,....Back off...relax, you guys are so up tight....
If people don't want to read threads they won't...at least give me a chance to post what I want..(Freedom of speech).
My post was neither offensive or off topic...why then?.
I feel the moderators are going way to far and starting to spoil the content of the board...a slippery slope if your not careful.
And please look at yourselves with regards to being Boring !!!!.

IMHO the moderators should only intervene in severe cases.

The original thread was OFF-TOPIC and so is this thread.
There is a simple way to avoid closed topics:
POST THEM IN THE CORRECT FORUM!
As for the moderators, they are following guidelines given to them by Randy. You remember him: The guy who pays for this board!
If you don't like the moderation, please e-mail Randy, don't attack the moderators.

1. Agree with Peter42.
2. Agree with Camera Guy this thread is off-topic and does not belong here.
3. Sugguest that perhaps it might be moved to the "Only Randy Petersen" Forum?

Ferrari....Please back off.!
Looking over Matthews comments, I think he makes a very clear "other member, not moderator" point of view about this post. I think it would be very hard for any member to connect the topic of "Theft from checked luggage" to FlyerTalk Community, given the forum's description of "The official get together page for the FlyerTalk community."
Rather than blast the moderators, it might really be respectful for any member in a case like this to step forward and say "I apologize. I now realize that I made a mistake by posting an incorrect topic in the Community forum. It's nice to see that moderators. who are actually members themselves, are trying their best to make the forums on FlyerTalk easier to read for content. I'm sure that now as in the very long run, this will make my personal as well as thousnads of other members time on FlyerTalk much more productive. I must have just had an off-moment. Again, I'm sorry for my mispost."
Life is full of cause and effect. I find it very strange that some members only want to analyze the effect and never assign any responsibility to the cause.
As noted, thanks to Matthew for the replay....

Perhaps, Few...
In any case, lose or loose, I'm going to move this out of Community so we can stay on topic... I'm going to put this down to the Only Randy forum. He has already replied, so I really don't think he is looking for more interactive feedback, but I'll let him close it if he sees fit....

Sorry for getting loose and lose my words...
Of course there is some choice of each moderator to react and close/move a thread. And most of us would not close a thread that at least has some affiliation to the forum it is posted within. But this post really had nothing to do with community...
BTW: Of course I didn't mean to offend the original poster, quite the opposite was intended. Thanx Matthew for your comment about that.
edited for typo...

I feel the Moderators jump in too fast on a lot of new posts. Most would die out in 24 hours or so....The boards seem to find their own way....Scott

Ferrari, no problem. If you click onto "FT Travel" on the very top of the page you see a list of boards with more general topics. One of them is "OMNI" which is the one where you can post nearly anything not regarding Airlines. Another one is "TravelBuzz!" where maybe your original post would fit. There is also a high volume of visitors so you would get attention for your topic.

And shouldn't have a moderator sufficient language skills to prevent mistakable statements like yours?

1.) Should people (including Americans) make a language skill test before using the board or becoming a moderator? The most misunderstandings happen between the users on the board (and are not due to moderating a thread) and many of them speak English as their native language.
2.) Does is mean that there are no mistakable statements if there are only moderators who passed a test as described in a)? Oh no! Misunderstandings happen always No matter how fluent people speak a language.
