As a clarification, if I see someone who has a Date Registered of '99 or blank, well then yes, I would throw more credibility to them, or should I say, I would be more apt to read the post. Then again, there are "newer" people, for example, in the US forum whose posts I try to read as well.

I think there is an inherent sense in some FTers that they need to boost their post count. This is the reason why I think it detracts from FT.

I agree with you that there are some who have the "need to post". However, I think eliminating the post count won't do that much. The goal of these people is ubiquity and seeing their name all over the place. In some cases, eliminating the post count might make them post even more!
