Counter

Randy, do you plan to restore the post counter on the bulletin board home page? We'd hate to miss your attainment of a half million posts!

chexfan Jun 9, 2001 12:21 pm

or to keep everything in sync, can we eliminate a member's post count?

Gaucho100K Jun 10, 2001 10:18 am

Right, I hadnt notice the counter was gone. I guess its part of the software update going on for the entire BBoard.

Give us another week, no more than two and everything should be clear to you then.

In my view, the post counts add to the enjoyment of FlyerTalk.

chexfan Jun 13, 2001 9:44 pm

I disagree. I think they detract.

RKG Jun 14, 2001 9:15 am

I agree with chexfan. Do away with the post counts.

Do away with the post counts.

I think post counts are very informative and add a great deal to my understanding of individual posters.

I think of post counts as multipliers. If I see a post by someone with triple-digit count, or more, I am much more likely to read it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Also, it's always displayed, and is up-to-date. Date Registered, OTOH, is often missing.

That means the person has been around... a while. I am more apt to read posts by these FTers.

So length of "service", not number of contributions, is your benchmark? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif
How does the post count detract from FT ant more than the "Date Registered"?
I agree with Punki, and feel that the combination of the two adds a great deal.

I agree with Punki and cactuspete. Knowing how long an FTer has been here and seeing how much or how little they post gives me a great deal of insight. That plus reading a few posts by these people reveals whether they are sharing their knowledge and experience, or just posting for the sake of posting. Post count is not everything, but it helps me discern if a person is adding to signal or to noise.

I am actually very interested in posts by people who have been around for years and have a very low count. That says to me that what they are saying is very important and special to them.
