New software question
Randy,
A little while ago you mentioned that Flyertalk was going to move to a new platform. I have no doubt that there's better software these days than UBB but what happens to the archived posts in the current forums? These posts hold a huge wealth of information and it would be a shame if all of it was deleted. What happens to our current usernames and passwords too? Also, on an unrelated issue, are there any planes to start a new bulletin board using Dorian's excellent http://www.flyersplaces.com/ . This or a similar design would be a fantastic resource. Right now, there have been a small number of reviews but if this becomes an offical site it could develop into a major traffic website. In fact, Webflyer could give one clickmile per review for the first 10,000 or so reviews to create an almost instant database of reviews.

Okay, for one...it is not 'my' board. Flyersplaces was created by members of FT for members of FT.
For the record, they are: Catman, Dorian, Rudi & Shareholder. This is mostly irrelevant...as we just wanted a place to post what Flyerplaces accomodates.
Also, it is merely Infopop's newest software. The 'older' version is what FT runs on...

Yes we are currently testing a few additional platforms and in all cases, the ability to keep the archives of all threads ever posted to FT is a requirement. The only downside may be that some of the old thread "addresses" might have to be relinked since the new boards we're looking at all store threads in a database rather than the way UBB does. The reason for the change is simple, we want to anticipate future growth and flexibility and the new boards have software code (PHP) that our tech team works with daily and thus we'd be able to custom build features. Thanks for the note on flyersplaces. Shareholder had mentioned he was going to work on something like that and I wish them well. I did at the time let him know that we were already working on FT extentions in that same area. You'll see the launch of FlyerTalkDining very soon and it will be dynamically linked into the current board though not adding those forums to the list already serving the purposes of FT. We're also working on a custom-build master calendaring application that some members of the board have inquired about which will allow you to plan visits with those in airports and cities at the same time. Moving to a board that allows an open design code like PHP will allow us to integrate all of this for you, as I'm not a big fan of re-registration. There's plenty ahead for FT and thanks for your concern - it reinforces what we hope we know and that is the information on this board is it's most valauble asset, coming slightly ahead of the value of the FTers themselves......oh what a group.

I am very pleased to see that archiving all existing threads will be a requirement for the new software you use. I belive it is essential that current usernames and passwords will also transfer so we don't have new Rudis, Docs or Catmen (and I think you imply that Randy). Will there be the capacity for greater personalisation (i.e. 'My Flyertalk') - for instance the option to only see certain forums listed on the main menu, or to squelch some users?
