I'm actually disappointed that the "Be a Jerk Here" thread was closed down. Although hardly my idea, it provided a useful outlet for people to vent, and I don't think there is anything truly offensive contained in it. Plus, it does contain (a little) travel-related information.
I certainly support ending all the back-biting and sniping, along with encouraging people to talk travel, but locking threads should be done, very, very, carefully, according to standards that everyone can understand, and they should be locked with a luggage lock, not with The Club.

THANK YOU svpii for starting this thread.
Also - THANK YOU Randy for the actions you have taken today.
Comment - This is Randy's Home and we are guests in his Home (the capital "H" is deliberate). It is a very sad day in this world when a person has to put "locks" on the inside of his home because of the actions of some of his guests. Yes, I do believe we are a "community"! But we are a community of guests sitting in Randy's living room inside his home.
May you all have a Happy and SAFE Holiday Season and "Let's Talk Travel".

svpii, Bigtex,
Agree with you both 100%. Let's start off the new year searching for points and upgrades, maybe even try for a New Year's resolution of no more flamin' and jetblasts.
Add my thanks to Randy for locking the threads--enough is enough!!
Happy Holidays to all, even Happier and Healthier, Prosperous, New Year.

RichG - sorry you feel I used The Club in locking down the Jerk thread (my experience with luggage locks are that they are made of the cheapest metal available and it seems they get broken even before I try to use them to safeguard something). I actually understand your thoughts on that and it really could have gone either way. Locking down a thread isn't a knee-jerk reaction and sometimes it seems we should have taken sooner action, but it's still not our intent to "control" the conversation. It is our intent to provide a safe community for those who visit and post with the spirit and intent of the board in mind. The main reason "the jerk" thread was locked down - Jerks aren't allowed on this board, so we feel no reason to allow them to vent. I hope you find this reasonable and looking over your history of contributions, you've been valuable to board and I hope you'll find it a better place to continue contributing.
With the recent attention on these types of topics, we're forced to move backward because of time constraints and may be asking individuals to edit their posts or lock down threads. However, it would be nice to consider this chapter closed.

Randy (and anyone else who reads this) -
I participated liberally in the "Be a Jerk Here" forum. I found it a fun way to blow off some steam during a rather hectic work week. I wasn't a jerk to any FT'ers out there.
Nevertheless, I SINCERELY apologize if I offended anyone. I thought it was a silly thread and took it as such. I am sorry if others did not feel the same way.
I even started a silly thread in OMNI titled "Please Don't Read This." Again, it was only my juvenile side, no harm intended.
I doubt anyone was offended by my antics, but I am posting this in case someone was. If you feel that I owe you a personal apology, please email me privately and I will address your concerns.
Your friend and fellow FT'er,
