Cmdr Catcop is one of the reasons that this board has been able to maintain its level of civility. No, Catman is not acting in any official capacity, but when he posts as Cmdr Catcop, it is his opinion.

Why do I get the feeling that some of you are OK when opinions agree with yours, but when the opinion disagrees, the person has no right expressing it?

This board has gone WAY downhill in the past 3 months (NOT a coincidence!).

I have a suggestion to all of you who think Catman is out of line:

Go join Trip.Com, ruin their board. LEAVE US ALONE!

Personally, I think that the Catcop is about as effective as the two security questions they ask in the US before issuing boarding passes.

Having said that, everyone is entitled to their opinion, even when they disagree with me.

If I disagree with the catcop, why should I join Trip.com?

I havent been able to continuously monitor this thread. Sadly, Ive squandered some of my leisure time planning a trip to Egypt via LatinPass miles: A mileage program I never would have heard about or participated in without this Board.

The big picture is getting cool tips; getting off a plane and having a drink with someone you only know over the internet; swank get-togethers; and reading insightful and hilarious trip reports.

The small picture is backbiting and the cult of personalities.

I notice a parallel: When a religious organization wants to ban an obscure book or film, everybody flocks to see it, giving it far more reach than it ever would have had if ignored.

Most annoying threads, if left alone, quickly die. If ones intent is to have a flame war, simply shake the hornets nest.

I once (in my attempt to accumulate one billion posts, my only goal in my empty life) started a topic called FT Theme Songs. I now propose this:

You have to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative

Take the good, and leave the rest. This isnt life and death, its a diversion.

PG,

Not aimed at you.

Aimed at the LOUD minority of members who cannot disagree on Cmdr Catcop's usefulness or right to be here in a rational and adult manner.

IMHO, Your post was an example of the proper way to voice disagreement.

Some incoherent thoughts from TW

We can all disagree from time to time. It's the nature of a true democracy. It only becomes difficult when we cannot have a "rational" discussion about our differing opinions.

I will defend the rights of those whos views disgust me in order to protect my rights. (paraphrased)

I respect those that take the time to try to organize a group and attempt to keep it within a "box" as long as they are willing to understand that the box is outlined with a pencil complete with eraser.

Everyone is strange. It's just that some people are better at hiding it than others.

Those that organize a diverse group agree to grow thicker skin.

Everyone is strange. It's just that some people are better at hiding it than others.

Minority view, majority view, who cares. Randy and crew's view is all that matters. They obviously already have the technology to censor words. I'd bet it's a user definable dictionary too. If they feel like Catman does about the word 'pi++ed' then they can put it on the list. If not, they won't.

I hate to quote "The Rock" in that Wyclef song.. but I feel the majority probably thinks IT DOESN'T MATTER.

I am going away to the Toronto Red Green weekend 2... antoher great Flyeratlk event.

Others are goign to Rudi's and COmicwoman's SFO celebration.

I propose that we let MY THREAD just go away. There's been enough snipping and criticism and flaming to last a year on this board.

I'm willing to end this right here.

I will be back.

I have many friends and I thank you all for your support.

And again let MINE be THE LAST POST ON THIS THREAD!!!

OK? Have a good weekend.

Have a nice weekend to you all. 6.15 pm Friday here ... mine has already started.

Now let me just unravel something troubling me, seeing FQTV has so boldly ignored the edict and the thread is at top anyway.

The very first 9 words of this thread, started by Catman were:

I know I'm going to be flamed for this...
Which as history shows was rather prophetic.

Now we are all asked to not contribute any more because Catman now decides:

There's been enough snipping and criticism and flaming to last a year on this board.
Ummm .................... ?

And Camera Guy excells himself by indicating this is a "proper way to voice disagreement", and takes no issue whatever with it (!!!!)

"Personally, I think that the Catcop is about as effective as the two security questions they ask in the US before issuing boarding passes".
Perhaps that might be the last word?

(And pigs might fly)

avanoicewickend!

Ozzie,

You are a hypocrite.

Catman issued no "edict", he merely proposed that we let this thread die. May I suggest that you sharpen your comprehension skills.

Any member of this community who dares disagree with you is met with a personal attack. Your ratio of NOISE to SUBSTANCE is amazing.

Why don't you try to post strictly positive posts?

I know the above suggestion will go unheaded, if you follow it, there is no way you can keep up with the 30+ posts per day pace.

Wheeew. I knew if I read this entire thread over and over and over again, I would find something useful. Took me a while (I am certainly not the sharpest knife in the drawer) but I found it!!!

Thanks, Geo, next time I'm in Virginia lets get together for a drink. And Catman, I'm happy to have a drink with you anywhere, anytime.
