I know that, but surely they do earn all of those things if booked on an AA flight number operated by CX, don't they? HKG-JFK flights all have AA codeshares on them, as do many of CX's regional flights.

I'll definitely use your suggested path for the leg ORD-YUL, unless someone else finds something more rewarding. I should get to Gold status by the time I complete PVG-ORD, and so the miles accrued after that will be 25% more, if I understand everything right?

I wish I could fly the segment HAN-SGN, but the reason I'm going to Vietnam is to trek/bike/train with a friend from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh and volunteer in libraries in between...! Thanks for the idea

Good news is that I already have 1,926 YTD EQM on my AAdvantage account so I'm that much closer to Gold/Platinum.

As for flying on CX, I was under the impression that I could not earn miles, based on the fare table on this page (the "L" class does not appear), but maybe I'm not understanding code shares the right way?
When you make Gold you will have 125% of the miles you fly credited to your redeemable miles basket, but not to your elite qualifying miles basket (not considering the temporary double miles promo). It's hard, and I'm not fluent yet, but you've got to start thinking in two languages: "redeemable" and "elite qualifying". Then, there are the dialects of points, segments, and miles. Yesterday I struggled to grasp how someone could think they'd get 1.5 elite qualifying miles flown on a Done* RTW. I searched the wikis, the AA site, as well as FT, until, duh, I realize they're talking points, not miles. Perhaps clear to you, clear as mud to me, but I'm learning, lol.

Fully agree.

Note that I carefully worded this, using "CX flight number" rather than "CX flight".

In general, AAdvantage make no reference to the operating metal, simply the passenger's flight number and booking class.
