Flights are only loaded by airlines up to about 330/355 days ahead (varies by airline). The tool will only show the schedules as loaded. You might get an indication by looking at current schedules, but no guarantee they will be the same in a year's time.

It's no more "useless" than anybody else's planner - the airlines simply don't load their schedules more than 330/350 days out. It you're trying to fly in the last month of a 12-month-validity ticket then, yes, you're going to have a problem looking at schedules but you can always look at the current schedules to get an idea of what the schedules are likely to look like.

Update on RTW start in Sept
itinirary: LHR-OSL//NRT-DEL//SIN-PER//MEL-AKL-SYD-HNL-LAX//SEA-ORD-YYZ-LHR
Put in phantom dates to get planner to accept it then phoned AA to get approval & pricing, as price was only good for 7 days & I was afraid it might increase substantialy before Sept deceided to purchase in Toronto now.
Finally have my RTW after 3 1/2 hrs at Pearson where there was no way the computer would print out the tickets so agent resorted to writeing them out by hand.
All in all it was a frusturating experience (travel agent wouldn't touch it as "not enough money in it to bother") but with the helpfull posters at Flyer Talk managed to get it done at a price I am very happy with:-:

I asked why not e-tickets & the agent said she had to issue paper tickets but didn't explain why but there was a glitch in the software & printer wouldn't print what was on the screen so after nearly 3 hrs calling all over the place she made hand written tickets.
Just couldn't find a way to use the 2 unused segments on what I wanted to do as everything I tried turned out to be 3 segments, what messed it up was I had planed going LAX-ANC but AA doesn't fly their own metal on that route so lost the 2 segments.
Planing a lot of rail & bus travel land segments. Am happy with the results so that's what counts.

For the OSL-NRT segment I will use a Scanrail pass to go to Helsinki via Lapland, rail to St Peteresburg, Moscow then the Trans-siberian to Vladavostock, ferry to Japan & rail to NRT.
The only flights that came up to ANC were DFW-SEA-ANC but the SEA-ANC segment was on Alaskan Airways which I couldn't use on a RTW ticket.
When I first started planing the trip there was a flight DPS-MEL but no longer.
One of the goals of this trip was to fill in the 4 states that I have never visited Hawaii, Washington, Oregon & Alaska so will either use Amtrack or bus from LAX-SEA then then there is a 7 day cruise of the Inside Passage out of Seattle.
