Is PLUNA a ONEWORLD carrier or associate?

The answer according to the ONEWORLD website is no. But I just printed out my boarding pass for a PLUNA flight tomorrow and it shows a ONEWORLD logo on it. I have seen no other reference to that airline's link to the alliance, either on its website or those of AA or BA. Does anyone know why PU's boarding pass would show the OW logo if it was not a OW member? (I'd like to get some AA miles from my flights between BUE and MVD.

The image printed on the boarding pass is usually a function of the ground handling counter/agent using a station that also checks/checked in customers for a OW airline-operated or -coded flight. PU having codeshares with IB and/or AA has been part of the picture and probably still is to some degree or another.

PLUNA has much more of a history with a (then) member of * Alliance -- that being Varig -- than it has with OW. It's not a member or official associate of OW.

Pluna in OW? I wish

Being based in MVD i see the pluna planes flying over my house every day. And they are in the news often. Here's what i know, they completely change the airline, all new short hall CJ planes now. They're opening up point to point routes, some not even connecting to Uruguay. They've got codeshares but only on IB for Madrid and AA for Miami.

If i were them, i'd offer code shares on all their short haul flights, especially to Argentina. Right now there are lots of airlines who fly to Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires who don't come to Uruguay. So for example if i wanted to fly JAL, or LH, or Malaysian or South African Airlines i can't get a single coded ticket from Uruguay. I've got to fly TAM to brazil or AA to EZE. It's crazy because AA only does like 4 flights a week to EZE and that's it. All the other flights from MVD to to the domestic AEP airport downtown. Then you've got to take a 45 minute to 1 hour cab ride to get to EZE.

What Pluna should do is codeshare feeders. While i'd love them to join OW, they might be wiser to play with everybody like Jet does.

There are no *A or ST airlines which fly to MVD, but three OW (LN, AA, IB). There's a Lan Chile, Argentina, Peru, and Ecuador. Who knows maybe if Leadsgate (the owners) fails they'll sell to LAN and it would be either called LAN Uruguay or Pluna, who knows. Then in that case it'd be OW.

Baring Pluna joining OW, maybe at least i can hope they'll put in a real OW lounge in the new terminal which is under construction.

I don't think the current PLUNA model will make for a compatible OW partner - they are planning on entering the Chile domestic market, and I can't imagine LA will want them in OW.
