When is a RTW Y+ product coming?

I am curious as to when a Y+ RTW ticket will become available. I know only a few of the OW airlines offer but, however with QF and BA doing it, it is in theory possible, albeit with very limited routes to do it?

It's already available - just buy an economy OW ticket and upgrade by segment where available; the fares are published. I suspect (without doing the calculation) that if you did this for many segments you would end up paying as much as for the equivalent business class ticket though.

Identify as a -Q- in the fare calculation, immediately following applicable sector.

For tickets not issued in AUD/GBP/USD/JPY convert the AUD amount at the BSR.

I get what your saying but as you said it increases the price of the ticket dramatically. I do however believe at some point they should consider a Y+ product, where one doesn't upgrade per sector but rather buys the ticket as an inclusive option.

Once upon a time (at least exAustralia until about a year ago) QF and BA did have a ticket that would look very much like a round the world ticket. I think it was Oz->Europe return with the options to go via NA or SA booking in W or B class.

About double the price of a LONEx and limited to the two airlines (and some of their codeshares) so purchasing additional segments in Europe or NA could get expensive.

A reference to the fare basis and rules were posted at the time.

This Premium Economy fare was useful at least a year ago.
BA / QF in W where available otherwise B class except Europe Y class

new-charges-premium-economy
as discussed in this forum

No doubt raised in price again but B class is more useful for AA FFers.

The fare is still available ex NZ and is about AUD3000 in B and about AUD4200 in T or AUD4900 in W.
The B fare allows a lot more route options that the T/W fare, eg. via JNB or via SCL.

Like you say, the B fare is a great cost effective option for someone who uses AA as there primary frequent flyer account

That seems really expensive to me for what I would consider a relatively small upgrade. You might toss this over to oneworld4u for a more informed opinion.

Perhaps a quick look at which airline will collect most of the higher surcharge amounts will provide insight into why the amounts were raised to those levels (when QF introduced PE). and no doubt there will be some "fiddling" when the OW fares go through the next round of foreign exchange adjustments.

From an AA FF member's perspective, the AU$750 isn't such a bad deal when the cost of J on SIN-LHR is considered or (even without status bonus) when one calculates the earning on a LONEx BA segment in L versus T.

Maybe it's time to consider a NZ TA......
