Need Help Immediately

Hi, we (my family of 4) are in the midst of our oneworld explorer rtw ticket. We are scheduled to fly tomorrow from London to Johannesburg. We were going to take a flight the next day to Zambia with a land segment back to Johannesburg. We have not been able to find any reasonable accommodations in Zambia (Livingstone) for that date so wanted to cancel that flight. Our next flight would remain the same as it is already scheduled to fly out of Johannesburg. We call AA and they said that is a re-routing and would cost us $500 to not take the flight. This just seems wrong to me as nothing needs be changed except we will not be on that flight. They also said if we don't get on the flight then they will cancel the rest of our tickets. Is this correct? Help!!

AA is correct. For the ticket to be valid you need to fly all coupons in sequence; just skipping a flight is not an option. If you don't want to fly a sector it does mean a reissue, so that's 4 times $150.

I think that will be a reissue regardless of paper ticket or e-ticket.

AA is 100% correct. Pay the difference or take the flight.

Stay on the Zim side to save money.

But if failed at any point before the entire trip is over, OP's family may miss their flight(s). I would not recommend that.
