RTW Look Good?

Being 1K, I've tried to find a good way to do this on *A but everything comes out $1k more per person with fewer flights. I end back up on Oneworld. What do you guys think? See any problems with this ITIN?

AKL-CHC-SYD-SIN(surface)BKK-HKG-PEK-NRT-(xHKG)-JNB-VFA-(xJNB)-LHR-LYS-
(xMAD)-RAK-MAD-GRU-EZE-(xSCL)AKL.

I figure I'll have to use my Alaska or UA miles to get to and from AKL...

Looks good to me. Just book SCL-AKL asap.

Is RAK an IB codeshare on Air Maroc? If so it cannot be used on OWE fares. Might want to double check for codeshares.
SCL-AKL should be much easier to get now that QF has SYD-EZE, doubling the capacity to SA.

Looks fine. Any particular reason why you want to start in AKL and not somewhere cheaper (NRT, JNB)?
This itinerary will make you a OW Emerald if flown in J or F.

NRT is cheaper than New Zealand in Y? This trip starts in October. I wanted to enjoy the spring in the south pacific and make it back to Japan closer to April.

Very good point. Half the flights are codeshares and half are not.

Doubling? Depends on which cabin you refer to. LA flies daily and QF will only be 3 times a week (but bigger a/c and different config).

-SIN(surface)BKK-HKG-PEK-NRT-(xHKG)-

Isn't this 5 sectors in Asia - assuming the surface sector is counted in the total permitted of 4?

Surface segments do not count towards the limit for the continent (4/6).

Ahhh. Thanks. So its only the 20 (or soon 16) total segments where it is an issue.

No, NRT is only cheaper in D. But since you are flying economy you are at a good spot. Be aware that in contrast to Star Alliance the OW RTW in Y books into a very low booking class (L) which in most programs will only give you 50% miles earning. Plus a low availability.

Ah. I'm currently debating whether to do the whole thing in miles as well. Since we'll be traveling for a year, money is a big issue. I'll have 500-600k UA miles and 200k AS miles by October. Putting together 3 or 4 round trips from the US (not doing the RTW miles option) would get us to the continents we need to hit and then we could use the local ryanairs of the world. And we could probably do all the long flights in J. Decisions, decisions...

When does the 16 segment limit take effect?
