Converting a DCIR26 into a DONE4 Midtrip
I'll be traveling on a DCIR26 ticket in early March, routing JFK-LAX-AKL-CHC-SYD-HKG-CTU-(surface)-PVG-NRT-JFK.
There is a good chance that I will be needed in Istanbul the week following this trip and , if I do need to be there, I would want to just fly to IST from NRT. Has anyone converted a circle fare into an explorer fare mid trip? The way I see it, my travel to NRT would not have violated any DONE routing rules, so if I wanted to change the routing to: JFK-LAX-AKL-CHC-SYD-HKG-CTU-(surface)-PVG-NRT-LHR-IST-LHR-JFK, that would be a valid DONE routing, so it should be pretty easy. Thoughts? Thanks! |
I've never done that but your plan looks good to me. As you say the itin up to the point of the conversion is a valid DONE, and since that seems to be the only condition for the conversion I'd say you are set.

I tried to do the opposite a couple of weeks ago for a friend. One of their party of 5 (currently on DONE4s in Oz/NZ) needs to come home and wouldn't be able to continue the RTW before the 12 months expires. I asked if she could convert her DONE4 to a Circle Pacific fare and AA said no, the two products aren't interchangeable. Thus she had to pay a reissue fee and return to the US (origin) the long way around. Big nuisance. They said (as it says in the rules) that you can move from a OWE to a GlobEx, but not to some other product.
I'll be curious to see if "up-selling" (going from a cheaper product to a more expensive one) earns the same reply. If it doesn't, good for you and it will earn them an angry phone call from yours truly. |

Why the angry phone call if the rules for both products are different? What your friend wanted to do is outside of the rules, what the OP wants is covered by the rules.

The way I read it, it says "Oneworld/Global Explorer fare" not circle explorer fare. A global explorer(GLOB) is not a circle trip explorer nor is a oneworld explorer a circle trip explorer.

But what I quoted is the rule for the Circle Explorer, the pdf rule. I don't understand the reason for the confusion.
DCIR26, to a DONE. I was looking to the Circle Pacific rules to see if that was possible, I'm not sure why the global explorer rules would apply to the DCIR26 fare. |

Yes, but in looking to see if it was possible you must have looked in the wrong place, because it made you say that the conversion Circle->DONE is not stated. Why I am saying is that it is stated, and the place where it is stated is in the text I quoted, which comes straight from the Circle Pacific Explorer rules.

Same document, but read a little before: section 16. A. 2. d
As for the rest of my confusion, looking back on the previous posts I'm not sure I understand myself what it was. |
