Question Chicago - Madrid on a LONE4 - Experiences?

I'm planning a LONE4 ex OZ and need to get from the USA to Spain.

I was considering BA to LHR, then onto MAD but the IBIB6274 ORD-MAD flight would be much more convenient time wise.

Does anyone have any experiences with this flight, or travelling IB coach in general?

Is there any other advice that may be useful.

I would prefer to use the AA codeshare for the double mileage earn.

I've flown ORD-MAD-ORD many times on IB in economy class. The only reason I'd consider to route via MIA, or any other AA gateway, would be to get the AA exit row seat but that, to me, is just not enough to miss out on the convenience of a direct flight. So my advice is get on the codeshare and go direct.

IB coach is heavily discounted and service matches this; it will be less pleasant than an AA flight, for example. But it saves a segment. Alternative would be AA ORD-MIA-MAD (they have 1 daily flight on AA metal). I would probably go with IB as the route convenience outweighs any other advantages, but IB mileage earn is dreadful as you realize, however good luck getting AA codeshare L availabilty on this route.

Thanks, currently showing all L7's for the AA code share on the dates I am looking at travelling (IB is L9).

What about catering across the Atlantic?

- is it complimentary or BOB for food/drinks?

As a oneworld Emerald, can I get good seating preallocation? Exit Row?

Their (English) web site seems lacking on this sort of information.

Catering in Y is so-so with IB, reasonable with AA. Food/Soft drinks is free with both, grog costs $$ with AA, it's free with IB.

Emerald gets you nowhere with IB seat assignment. Ask your ticket issuer airline to request a seat for you from IB; with paid tickets it works most times.

Not on QF: the table says L class (along with a lot of other Y buckets) is Economy and 1.0 points per mile. (Not even Discount Economy.) Whereas an AA flight in L is Discount Economy and earns at 0.5 points per mile on QF. This is one case crediting to QF and not AA makes a lot of sense, as does flying IB rather than the AA codeshare.

Of course, If I credit to QFF and use the AA codeshare flight number I get 200% miles with the QF WP status bonus.
