I'm not sure if I'm misreading this. Are you saying that that if I begin my RTW at JFK, then fly down to South America, and then want to connect to Asia (via the U.S.), I have to connect through JFK?
No, in that example you can connect through to Asia using any available port except JFK.

In regard to connecting back through NA to Asia, it all depends upon what routes are available between SA and NA that enable transfer/connection to Asia - you simply cannot use the point of origin for such a transfer.
