baggage allowance inquiry

In the past, xonex tickets have been allowed 2x bags at 32kg for the entire trip. Is this still the case with BA's restrictions? Am I only allowed 1 bag on BA segs on an LONEx?

Not for the entire trip; two pieces, yes, but the max weight varies by airline.

The LONEx tickets have 2 bags as their allowance -- a big feature now, I suppose. Weight limit does now vary by airline, with 50lbs (23 kg) on AA, however it is loosely enforced esp. if you have Emerald status. I think all the other OW airlines are still at 70 lbs/32 kg per bag.

Any ticket routing through US/Canada gets the piece system, and all other tickets are on the weight system. Luckily the OWE rules specify the piece system, even if you avoid US/Canada -- a big advantage of this ticket type.

Thanks. I think that about sums up every question one might have about baggage.

23KG is fine for me if it's 2 bags - I'll only be checking in one bag and carrying on medium size bag, but my carry on doesn't fit LHR restrictions so I will have to check it in at those times (plus I have a laptop bag, don't think I can have both at LHR anyway).

It looks like all EU airports will adopt the UK limits by May 2007, so you won't be allowed 2 carry-ons per the US rule at any EU airport, not just LHR. Also many EU airlines have a 6kg carryon weight restriction and some are starting to enforce that limit. Makes for lots of empty overhead bins in the EU flights.

There seem to be some reports that the implementation of new hand baggage rules are going to be delayed by the EU for six months until November:
http://www.avionews.com/index.php?co...ante=index.php
http://news.opodo.co.uk/articles/200...nd-luggage.php

I'd take them with a pinch of salt for the moment, simply because I have not found an official press release from the European Commission and the story does not appear to be widely covered.

I guess we'll know closer to 6 May, when I think the rules were due to come into effect.
