Problem with AA on AONE only offering L class

Hi there,

I am flying YVR-DFW-SJO and AA state that I can only fly in L class on the DFW-YVR route as the D class is not offered. There is J class available but it is not a case of no D class left, they just don't offer it. I am flying the second leg to SJO in business with them.

has anyone any information that can help me. BA have waitlisted me in D but it doesn't show up on the AA booking. I have also reserved in J class to hold a seat.

Thanks again

Bobie

AA does have D class on DFW-YVR ; picking a day at random , from Expert Flyer, I can see J,D and I classes offered. If D is unavailable, then you will indeed need to book in L class

Are you making the booking with BA or AA?

Why have you reserved J class? Are you prepared to pay for J rather than fly in economy if the waitlist does not clear? Holding a J booking reduces the chance of the waitlist clearing I would suspect

YVR is a special market for AA, many of the seats are sold to cruise ships. The entire flight can be sold out months ahead of time when it coincides with a cruise ship arrival or departure. Probably you are flying on one of those dates; usually the day before or after has plenty of D availability, but that specific date will never have D (it is already sold to the cruise lines).

OK thanks. Called AA and was told as long as I could present the original boarding pass from MRU-JNB thry could re-issue my ticket at the airport in order to put me in D class......whatever, luckily I have it.

Who at AA did you speak to? I can not make much sense of what they told you, because your ticket should not require a re-issue. As long as there is availability in D for your flight, you're entitled to fly. And why AA would want to see the MRU-JNB boarding pass is beyond me. I wonder whether the AA agent you spoke to actually had a clue...

Be aware that a reissue of an xONEx ticket can be very a long and painful affair.

At the moment he is ticketed in economy with a voluntary downgrade; to go in business class it needs to be rebooked into D class and so should need a reissue

Indeed, but I can never understand why anyone would do that. If you find yourself in this situation get the ticket coupon issued open-dated in D and get a separate reservation for that sector only in L and waitlisted D. That way you can turn up with the D ticket and take the L seat if no D clears, but if it does then no reissue.

I would hazard guess Bobie has learned something in this.

It may not have been immediately apparent during the booking process or on receipt of ticketing that the L class segment existed.

I don't believe this would happen to any of the regular posters here.
