Question I need help... How does this work?

I have earned airline miles on American Airlines and Quantas Airlines (both members of One World) and want to use the miles to purchase a ticket on LAN Airlines to Peru.

How does this work? What is the best way to get the most miles credited to me?

I am a frequent flyer member of all three airlines and have approx. 12,500 miles on American, 15,000 on Quantas and 5,000 on LAN.

Thanks!!!

Look at each of the airline web sites. You cannot combine or transfer points-miles between each freq flyer program. Having 3 FFP accounts with Oneworld airlines is not an efficient way of collecting points-miles. AA is likely to best single FFP as QF & LAN flights will probably be able to be credited to AA, depending on ticket class and other restrictions

I doubt if you have enough miles/points get an award ticket on any airline. Time to get the credit card out for your Peru trip.

Is it possible to request a credit on AA for the flights we just made with Qantas? There is a form they have online to fill out for the credit, but can I receive it since I screwed up and already earned points through Qantas?

I wish I hadn't listened when Qantas said I needed their FF program for the One World credit. I even told them I had an AA account. Arg!

Better check your fare class, most discount fares with QF will earn miles on QFF but earn 0 miles on AA. So you might want to determine how many AA miles you will earn before trying to reverse the credit. If you decide to do so, you will first need to contact QF to remove the credit from QFF, and then contact AA to get credit to AA. It is possible but takes a while and doesn't always go smoothly. Chances are that QFF is the only way to earn miles for your fares.

As for future strategy, you have to check the fare basis and see what it earns in the various OW plans. For discounted fares you may have to keep crediting to different plans. These rules change regularly, so you have to check the current rules (which takes about 30 seconds at each web site) rather than relying on comments about the past rules (as that advice may no longer match the current program rules).

It looks like I will get 50% with AA. I guess it is better than having random miles floating everywhere
