Additional sectors

I am currently on the European sector of a AONE3 bought in Bangkok. I have already used the "long haul" allowance in Europe on LHR/DXB and return. I will use the other 2 sectors for LHR/ZRH and return.

Question - can I purchase 2 additonal sectors as LHR / CAI and return or are the additional purchased sectors limited to Europe short haul? I cant see anyhting in the rules to apply this restriction and if this is allowed it is a great bargain!

AFAIK that is one of the few unswered (untested?) issues yet to be settled in this forum. If memory serves, there's no post in the archives reporting either success or failure. So, go on, try it and break new ground! .. and don't forget to tell us the outcome.

I'll bet that's one of those questions that'll get 12 different answers from 8 different airline agents. If you really want to do it, keep asking until you get a 'yes' and fly away happy. If you'll be in London to do the re-issue, you should have all the OW airlines to ask.

I'd book the segments first, then arrange reissue separately.

I had asked this question here on FT back in the spring and thought I had received several "definitive" answers from the experts that it could not be done. So I gave up the idea. Thus I would be particularly interested to hear if it works out.

There has been discussion before with some saying yes and some no but no one has reported that they have been able to get a xonex issued with additional long EUR segments while others have been told no(me included).

It would also be interesting to know about actual experiences in purchasing tickets on other long haul intra-continental flights that violate the constraints imposed within the regular ticket. That is, in addition to your question about the second "transcontinental" intra-Europe trip, what about a second trans-North American segment or trans-Australian segment (within the 20 segment limit, of course).? Are these still ambiguous or are they definitely prohibited and it is only the Europe one that is indefinite?

Only the European "long" restriction uses the weird wording "NO MORE THAN 2 FREE SEGMENTS...". All others just say a plain "no".

The BKK Ta from whom I bought the ticket says no, this is not allowed. Will try it with BA and report back!

Try it with someone *other* than BA if you can. My read of posts here is that BA is the singularly most restrictive, in some cases denying segments that the FT experts deem valid.

There seems to be common agreement on that point. If you are issuing in Bangkok then why not see what CX says.

If BA could get away with it, they would not allow any xONEx tickets! They are absolutely the worst!

BA in South Africa just refused to price my OW ticket pulling the old "it must be done by the carrier for your 1st intercontinental leg (CX)". Given everything I read here maybe I am better off doing it through CX anyway.

It sounds like I missed the chapter where you've decided to fly MRU-JNB-HKG etc. Cathay might indeed be willing to ticket that. If you have a toll-free number for them, it's easy enough to ask. Many of us have enjoyed excellent booking services out of CMB; they respond quickly and intelligently to email, and may be able to tell you whether or not they'd do it. You'll also need a way to pay for the tickets in Mauritius, i.e. a GSA, so ask Cathay about that as well. I suppose IBL Travel will do that for you but I've only asked about BA. PM for the Cathay email contact.

[Aside: It being December, have ex-MRU prices gone up, or are they still the same?]

Thanks. Someone said yesterday that EF ONE fare display wasn't working so I didn't bother to look. My recollection was that the previous AONE4 price was about USD5000, so while the new price is a 14% increase, it's still an interesting price point.

Unfortunately MRU has a bunch of baggage that increases the effective cost/bother. Some is BA-induced and some a result of its end-of-the-world location and general lack of air commerce.
