LONE4: fee for changing first international flight

I have a LONE4 originating in Sydney that was booked and paid for a couple months ago, and the first flight is SYD-HKG next month. However, I want to leave SYD one day earlier.

I've read the rules and done a search, and it was my understanding that I could change the date/time of any of my flights for free. However, my travel agent is saying that it will cost me about A$180 to change this flight. I called Cathay Pacific as the first flight is CX, and the lady said to talk to my travel agent as some RTW fares have penalties and some don't.

From doing a search on this forum and reading the rules, I didn't read anything about that! Is this true?

Code:
 49N TRAVEL ORIGINATING AREA 2/3:
 50N BEFORE DEPARTURE:
51N . 1. UNLIMITED CHANGES PERMITTED WITHOUT CHARGE.
 52N . 2. DATE/TIME AND ONEWORLD CARRIER CHANGES ARE
53N . PERMITTED WITHOUT REISSUE PROVIDED ORIGIN,
54N . DESTINATION, CONNECTING POINTS AND INVENTORY
 55N . REMAIN THE SAME.
So whatever the TA wants to charge is something they are imposing, not something mandated by the ticket rules.

Doesn't change the first international flight requires a refare? If the fare is the same, you are still responsible for current fuel surcharges and other taxes.

From area 1 yes but from area 2/3 the answer is no. See the excerpt from the rules that christep posted. As christep stated this is probably a charge being imposed by the TA or is a charge being imposed by QF akin to the BA charges for date/time changes that aren't required by or imposed in the rules.

Most likely from TA. QF doesn't charge unless specified by the rules (other than the horrid fuel surcharges of course).

Can someone else change my flight, or do I have to go through my TA (and pay $180)?

Is it an e-ticket? If paper, do you physically have it yet?

If you booked it through a Travel Agent you will need to make the change with the agent.

If all your flights are still available you could just cancel for a full refund and then rebook with someone who doesn't rip you off...

I would suspect that the agency would still have the fee on cancellation too.
