Can anyone recommend a travel agent in AU (preferably SYD) or give me a phone number for a helpful/knowledgable OW airline desk in AU? I'm still seeking help with purchasing a xONE5 at the AU fare using a US credit card.

I found the number for the AA ticket sales center in AU (1 800 673 486), but I can't dial it from the US. Neither AA in the US nor QF in AU were able to give me a phone number for an AA ticket office in AU that I could dial from outside AU.

So, I tried calling QF's AU number (+61 2 9691 3636) instead...

Agent #1 said that because I am located in the US, I have to pay the US fare, regardless of the fact that I am starting/ending in SYD.

I hung up and called back to get a different agent...

Agent #2 said that there were "governmental restrictions" that prevented me from purchasing a ticket at AU fare if I am located in the US, and said that the only way to do it was "on the internet."

Once again, I hung up and called back to get a different agent...

Agent #3 - Said that she would not be able to look up my itinerary because I have an AA record locator number. She recommended that I call QF in the US and build my itinerary all over again and then call her back. (Even though I sensed it would be a dead end, I did call QF in the US... just for kicks. After explaining my situation, they told me they couldn't help me but to try calling back "after hours" because I would then be transferred over to the call center in AU. Of course, I explained that I had just called QF in AU and that they had told me to call QF in the US...).

At this point, I feel like I am in the Twilight Zone... can anyone give me another phone number to try, whether a travel agent or OW airline desk in AU?

By the way, for those that care, this is the current state of my itinerary:

1. SYD - AKL (1 of 4: SWP)
2. AKL - CHC (2 of 4: SWP)
3. CHC - AKL (3 of 4: SWP)
4. AKL - xHKG (intercontinental)
5. xHKG - BKK (1 of 4: Asia)
*. BKK - SGN (overland)
6. SGN - xHKG (2 of 4: Asia)
7. xHKG - TPE (3 of 4: Asia)
8. TPE - xHKG (4 of 4: Asia)
9. xHKG - LHR (intercontinental)
10. LHR - ATH (1 of 4: Europe)
11. ATH - MAD (2 of 4: Europe)
12. MAD - TGL (3 of 4: Europe)
13. TGL - xLHR (4 of 4: Europe)
14. xLHR - NBO (intercontinental)
15. NBO - xLHR (intercontinental)
16. xLHR - JFK (intercontinental)
17. JFK- SFO (1 of 6: N. America)
18. SFO - undecided (2 of 6: N. America)
19. undecided - SFO (3 of 6: N. America)
20. SFO - SYD (intercontinental)

Hi 20schwarz,

I have had the same problems with ticketing a ONE4. I'm out of BOS and trying to get ticketed out of LHR for there cheaper fares as well. I had the same issue about "Mailing" the tickets outside of country, not so much the cc issue.

So today i called the AA in UK again and spoke to a new agent. They told me i couldn't have my tickets printed and held at LHR. Then was put on hold for 5 min after i asked why. Then she came back and said that they would print the tickets when i was at LHR for departure. Weeeeew, so over this hurdle of mailing. Now i told her i wanted to pay now over the phone, they took all cc info and the agent said that i should be billed in 2-3 days. I also said that i would wire the money over if cc was not accepted and she agreed that would be ok. So i'll see if they throw a wrench in the works again somehow in a day or two!

But overall i never had such a problem paying a company over $6,000 USD (for 2). They really try to dupe the US travelers as are fares are much more.

Or if have to be mailed try sending to a courier service in AU, then have them forward tick to u in US. Wire the money over if cc is not taken.

My hurdle is the credit card, not the mailing. Well, actually, I haven't even gotten to the mailing part yet, as all the agents I've spoken to get hung up on the payment thing and I'm not able to move forward. (But, for what it's worth, my planned solution for the mailing issue is to either use a friend's SYD address or pick up the tix when I get to SYD.)

Hope all goes well with your payment and ticketing! This process is definitely painful, but hopefully in the end it will be worth it in $ savings...

Taxes

I just got a final quote from MRU on a AONE5

hkg-nrt-hkg-mel-cns-bne-akl-syd-jfk//
lga-kin,mbj-jfk-yvr,
lax-lhr(x)-bud-lhr-dxb-lhr(x)-cpt

The taxes are 20% of the ticket price. Is this normal or is this route really expensive ? Also I mentioned that I was stopping over only once in LHR .

Probably fuel surcharges are the culprits rather than taxes.

On my AONE5 ex-MRU ticketed in Sep and started a month ago, the total cost was MUR 244521. In addition to the base fare of 215000, added on was 10585-YQ, 4422-YR and 14514-XT. Thus an extra charge of about 14%. Routes can vary in price. I was originally quoted extras totalling almost 25% but upon questioning this amount, it turned out that a miscalculation (!) had been made on charges going through LIM. I'd ask them if there is one charge that seems out of proportion to the others- which is what I did.

My attitude on fuel surcharges at the moment is that they are likely to decrease rather than increase. So I am issuing my next AONE3 with the absolute minimum number of segments, with a view to reissuing it later for the segments I want. Of course, I am holding the key reservations for those segments separately.

Have a play around with this tool. Basically they categorize the various add-on surcharges (e.g. fuel surcharges, passenger service charges etc.)
