Family of 5 travelling which FF program?

My friends are travelling on a once only trip. they are on disc CX. I just did the calc on BA and it comes in at 2641 from syd-hkg-lhr).
not a lot of points even on a family plan they will only achieve like 25k.
thought of qantas but they only get 50% so around 10k each. 50k seems a bit better.
are there any other OW programs where they can pool the miles at the end?
I tried finnair and though they get full points they cannot pool.
any ideas appreciated.

Asiamiles would earn free miles and I think it allows family pooling (not sure), plus it is free to join but they don't earn any status (that is a separate plan, the MPC, which does cost a fee to join). Lack of status earning is presumably irrelevant. Asiamiles has the big advantage of being able to redeem on several different airlines, on better terms than on BAEC and QFF.

It doesn't.
You can transfer points (at a fee) but there is no pooling to get a award allowed.

For OP, Asia Miles offers better value on the redemption side than QF but the miles will go away after three years (consideration if you are only planning to travel infreqently and cannot get enough to get a free flight within three years).

for QF, the redemption rates are pretty horrible, but as long as you have any activity in a three year window, the points never go away.

BAEC has a "household account" facility. See this on the BA web site.

Don't know how the earning and burning rates compare.

Just checked out the asia miles program and Im am seeing that S class on CX gets no points even on their program is this correct or am I missing something??
As I said in the OP I did the calculations on BA and they only get 2641 each way syd-lhr.
but just found out that on the cheap S fare on Qantas they get nada!!
and I almost got them to pay to join.

Ill have to find out if they actually get anything in S on BA
better than nothing

sorry I was editing while Darren was writing i think!
sorry thanks for the ifo

any positive info appreciated

S? I don't even think you'll get anything on Asiamiles for that. Might want to check into Alaska. Their website doesn't indicate fare earners, but I suspect if CX won't even give you Asiamiles that they won't give you Alaska miles.

Edited to add that you won't get either AS or Asiamiles with an S fare. Really, it sounds like they may be SOL.

BAEC doesn't let you join until you fly a premium fare, so unless they are already a member it isn't an option to credit to BAEC. An interesting rule on BAEC, must credit a non-discounted fare to BAEC before you are allowed to open an account.

I haven't checked but probably no plan will give credit for S; however look on the bright side, they saved a bunch of cash in the fare which is worth more than those worthless FF miles.

tinky,

If your family are using Australian based credit cards, they are probably still better off placing their miles with QF. Considering your family don't travel much, credit cards may be the best way to top their miles up and we all know how generous QF are with CC miles - possibly the most generous carrier out there (unfortuantely).

thanks for the thought but
its not Qantas that is generous. its the credit card companies.
the CC companies pay Qantas for the points. then qantas are extremely stingy with award seats.
and
Qantas dont give points for S class CX

otherwise I absolutely agree with you.

seems the only ones who give points in S is BA even CX dont give points in their own program

S, N & O class fares really are scraping at the bottom of the barrel. Any chance they can upgrade to a higher fare basis? Often it only costs a few extra dollars and they will end up getting a truck load of points.
