Am I LONEstar ?

please mind the sad post title.

This is my first time here and my first RTW journey.

I am in Australia and planning on going on a LONE4.

What I was hoping to get was a nod of approval from you RTW gurus out there on my trip, that is any probs you can see.

I am a QF Frequnet Flyer, havent joined the others like AA.

Wanted to keep taxes to lowest but dont know how to calculate them myself, as per the belwo should I travel on other airlines instead of the ones chosen, also how do I keep taxes down ?

here is the journey with city and airline, cost is $2,979AUD plus taxes :

SYD - JFK (QF) - CUN (AA) - BUF (AA) - ORD (AA) - JFK (AA) -

LHR (AA) - CAI (BA) - BCN (IB) - IST (IB) - LHR (BA) -

PEK (BA) - HKG (CX) - BOM (CX) - NRT (CX) -

PER (QF) - MEL (QF) - AYQ (QF) - PER (QF)

------------------------------------------------------------

Total City Count: 19
Total Sector Count: 20
Total Region Count: 4

1) Fly in coach (which you are)
2) Avoid stopping in London
3) Book on AA (which you might be able to do since you're doing AA from JFK-LHR)
4) Try to make as few connections as possible.

Obviously, these aren't feasible for your journey. So in your case, just book on AA and that's about all you can do, imo.

Your trip is fine. Your actual routing would be SYD-JFK-CUN-ORD-BUF-ORD-JFK-LHR-CAI-BCN-IST-LHR-PEK-HKG-BOM-HKG-NRT-PER-MEL-AYQ-PER

There are several other routings that would get you similar results if availability becomes an issue.

As for New York. Frequency from Chicago to LaGuardia or Newark is much more frequent than to JFK. JFK is an RJ Eagle flight and there's only a few a day. If it were my choice, I would go to Newark if you're taking public transport to Manhattan or to LaGuardia if you're taking a cab. Other opinions might vary.

keep away from LHR you reckon, good tip cause I always suspected that be a pricy airport to fly into.

As for flying into NYC, are the taxes the same for JFK and Laguardia ?

What other routing could there be cause my first flight out of SYD to JFK avaliablity is an option and have to leave earlier then I wanted.

thanks

would anyone know what the taxes and charges are for flying into JFK ?

for instance will the taxes be the same on these two trips:

SYD - JFK - CUN

SYD - CUN via JFK(not getting out of JFK)

I am wondering if only staying in JFK for 13 hrs instead of 3 days is the same charge of taxes ?

JFK levies the typical passenger service charge charged by many US airports (US$4.50 per movment) and it's the same regardless of the time between movements (arriving, departing.) If you fly into JFK and out of LGA, as co-terminals you still get the same charge.

Bottom line, airport taxes in the US are not especially onerous. It's fuel surcharges that you should be aware of.

Browse around this site for tax and surcharge information.

Yeh, that's pretty much true for most airports except London, where taxes can be high. But even in London, you are going to get dinged *much* harder with a biz or first ticket than a coach ticket.

I noticed Lan has imposed a fuel surcharge recently. But unlike the other airlines' screwball charges, at least there is rhyme or reason attached to the Lan charges. It's based on the cost of oil. The more oil per barrel increases, the more the charge increases. If the cost goes down, the charge goes down. And the steps are clearly stated on the website.
