If one of your coupons is for JFK-HKG but the flight happens to stop in YVR, it does not count as your transcon.

How about IST-LHR-SFO // SJC-LAX-LAS-DFW-IAD-JFK-YYR for the first part? Being both in LAx and SFo for a short time, I don't think Lax has anything to offer but SFO has a lot. ))
JFK-SFO with AA and then SFO-HKG with CX. Did consider adding on YVR, but short of time.

Yes you should - DCIR22 clearly book into A (if available) for DFW-LAX.
Another great example of the value of this forum. I called QF and asked about whether D class books into A for the AA DFW-LAX flight. We went through the rules and lo and behold, there it was in black and white! Admittedly, a cursory glance wouldn't have found it. So, it was immediately booked into A, and I have used "Check my trip.com" to confirm the booking. Quite exciting as it's my first foray into A....

First, welcome to Flyertalk. Second, I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but please don't get yourself excited about AA domestic first class. It's roughly equivalent to intra-European business class (better seats, worse/no food), i.e. better than coach but nothing really special, far inferior to international business class where you'll be spending the bulk of your time. Have a look at the myriad complaints over in the AA forum and you'll see what I mean.

That said, it will earn you SCs as A class and is a good deal better than coach.

Enjoy your trip.
