LanPass Oneworld Rewards Require less Miles?
I was reviewing the LanPass Oneworld award charts and it appears that you need fewer miles to redeem flights. For example, a 10,000 mile Oneworld award on AA.com would require 70k miles, while on Lan it is 95,000 km (approx 60k miles) And if you transfer Starpoints, at a 1:2 ratio, you can transfer 50000 starpoints and get 100k Lan points...If I am correct, this would be a much cheaper way to redeem Oneworld awards thru LanPass. Can anyone provide some insight?

I want to book a redemption from HKG to DEL on CAthy. I was going to transfer my Starwood points to Asia Miles to do this but I see I can get a 1:2 ratio for LAN Chile. If I do this how many LAN point s to get this flight? Is there a one world redemption chart like Star Alliance?
Thanks
Thanks

No, Oneworld doesn't work like the Star Alliance. As JonNYC pointed out, each airline has their own individual set of rules. Lan is actually a lot simpler than most other programs. Except when you fly on LAN, the redemption rates are all distance based. Add up the distance, look at the chart, and you're good to go. It's the Star Alliance equiv of ANA.
In the case of HKG-DEL-HKG, the distance is about 7500km, which is 65k in economy or 130k in business. On Asiamiles, the cost would be 35k in economy or 70k in business.
So to ticket on LanPass, you would need to transfer 27500 starpoints for economy or 55000 for business. To ticket on Asiamiles, you would need 30000 in economy or 60000 for business. Sounds to me like the LanPass is a better deal. I have no idea how they are to deal with, though. I have been a LanPass member for some time, but I have never credited any miles to the account, and I have never taken out a ticket.

Thanks for your input. I thought I was correct when I was looking at their charts but I wanted to make sure before transferring Starwood Points to a LanPass account...

Does that mean every flight counts towards the miles being used? (in your OP you were referring to the distance-based type awards.)
Or, do they also figure it the way AA does- which can be very advantageous (depending on routing.) I have no idea myself.

Right. I was actually replying to llbean, who said that he wanted HKG-DEL, which is easy because there's only one flight and it's nonstop, but any other routing would need that to be cleared up. My guess is that it's segment by segment and not A -> B because the chart is not only for Oneworld awards. It's also for partner awards, with one odd yet unimportant exception.
