OTOH
Adding JFK-HEL-BCN-LHR (or variation) at the end might be more interesting than JFK-LHR. Depends on your time constraints, affection for mileage and budget.

Or pick a spot in Europe where AA flies outside of the UK.

Happy wandering

When I booked my LONE4 (with BA as ticketing airline) they counted the intercontinental flight as a segment on the destination continent.
I booked ARN-MAD-SCL-GRU//GIG-SCL-IPC-SCL-AKL which they got to 1 segment in Europe, 5 segments in SA:
MAD-SCL 1
SCL-GRU 2
GIG-SCL 3
SCL-IPC 4
IPC-SCL 5
so I had to pay another $150 for the extra segment

In vodkamike's itinerary I count that to 7 segments in NA (6 allowed):
SYD-HNL 1 (I'm not sure if HNL counts as NA, couldn't find any info about that)
HNL-SFO 2
SFO-LAX 3
LAX-LAS 4
LAS-ORD 5
ORD-YYZ 6
YYZ-BOS 7

The JFK-LHR would count as a segment in Europe.

Angry Damn you BA

Doesn't sound too good, the prob is that noone seemed to know anything at BA when I tried to get some info, even the TA helpline were clueless and would even price MAD-SCL-PUQ-SCL-GRU-GIG-SCL-IPC-SCL-CCS-SCL-AKL 10 segments in SA (as they didn't count IPC to SA, but still 8 which is 2 too much), my TA did however notice this.
Prob is that my ticket is non-refundable, but I'll give them a call tomorrow, maybe they can cancel it (damn, the outbound MAD-SCL 18dec in L is sold-out).
If they refund me I'll try to find another MAD-SCL and call AA, save some money on fuel surcharges.
Damn you BA

Gardyloo: Please post evidence from OW/AA/BA-webpage or something like that, or old itn that worked that way so that I can argue my case with BA. Thx

One World Explorer Validator

Mannen:-
Put your itinerary in the One World Explorer Validator. Not official as such but its accurate. Flights between continents are not counted in the continent count (4 EU,SWP, NA, Asia & 6 NA), but the limit overall is 20.

You can consult the Rules here. (Some minor changes but nothing major with your itinerary.)

The intercontinental flights are never counted against intra-continental limits, although of course they count against the 20.

Thanks, that link was great. Another thing that BA didn't know:
Code:

 11N AFTER TICKETING ISSUANCE:
 23N . * CHANGES OTHER THAN DATE/TIME ARE PERMITTED AT A
24N . CHARGE OF USD 75.00. THE TICKET MUST BE REISSUED.

 30N TRAVEL ORIGINATING AREA 2/3:
 31N BEFORE DEPARTURE:

33N . * UNLIMITED CHANGES PERMITTED WITHOUT CHARGE.
BA told my TA that changes to the routing even before departure (like changing a segment) would be subjuct to a pentalty of 125USD. It says nothing about the ticket being issued, as it does when originating from AREA 1 (rules). As I interpret the above changes in the itinerary should be for free when originating from AREA2/3 if done before departure?

Looks as I will talk to BA tomorrow, best would be if they refunded the whole amount and I could book via AA (cheaper) if I can find availability to MAD-SCL.

Also, as you guys seem to know more than the CS at BA, can I have my ticket partly as e-ticket and partly on paper? One leg, SCL-AKL doesn't allow e-ticket, so I got it all on paper, BA claimed they couldn't split it up. If I remember correctly though, a friend of mine was able to split the ticket, same TA, different person, I'll ask her about it tomorrow.

Time to get some sleep and thanks alot for your help guys!

The $75 change fee is history, now $125, one of the "minor" changes I mentioned earlier. Note some airlines (BA, QF) will add extra charges for the inconvenience, or because it's Tuesday, etc. Don't expect consistency.

I think all-paper is needed if any of the participants don't do e-tix. Not sure.

On a first issue? I doubt it very much. Sometimes, on re-issues, or involuntary re-routes, the ariline will elect to replace some of the coupons with an e-ticket, but that is probably the only case, never, I think, at the request/convenience of the passenger.
