Les, welcome to the OneWorld forum. Organizing your first RTW takes a lot of work on your part, and a number of decisions. Viajero has rightly pointed you to the stickies, where you will learn a lot of basic information. You'll need to decide whether your budget stretches to biz or first, or whether you need to remain with coach. You need to decide what continents you want to visit, and thus whether you are buying an xONE3, xONE4, or so on. When you've made some of those decisions, you can look at the pricing provided in the stickies, and see where it makes economic sense to begin your trip. If you decide to start outside the US, you'll need to consider the cost to get to the origination point.
Do a lot of reading, do some planning, and then let us know specifically how we can help.
And if you already know you are going to begin in the US, then call the AA RTW desk and begin booking.
