Egypt (CAI) Taxi Advice

I end my 3rd DONE04 in CAI in few weeks. I know to buy my passport stamp, then hit immigration. What is easiest way to get reliable cab into the city after customs? I had ordered car before. Last time, went to one of those offices after customs, but ended up in a private car with 3 local guys. Kind of weird.

Any advice/experience?

You won't have a problem finding a taxi once exiting immigration! I've paid 40-45 EGP to the Conrad the last two times I've been to Cairo (going to the airport from the Conrad oddly always has been more expensive, about 60, even off the street). You may be able to do a little better if you walk down to the parking lot where the taxis are waiting.

Easy. Ask the people offerering Taxis for the price. Don't pay more than approx. 20 pounds for Heliopolis or 30-40 pounds for downtown.
I found the best prices by going directly to the waiting cars in the parking lot - then you can even find one which dies not look like it will not survive the trip.

If you are uncomfortable with finding a taxi when you arrive at CAI (it can be overwhelming, as you well know), perhaps your hotel can arrange a car for you? I had the former Sheraton el-Gezirah arrange this for me, and it wasn't really expensive (under $20), but no doubt more than a regular taxi.

I agree with the suggestion to book a pickup with your hotel. Movenpick Heliopolis would pick up for free, being nearby, but the downtown hotels aren't likely to break the bank.

Original Poster - Having Hotel Arrange Pickup

Thanks for suggestions, guys. Alas, I already called the hotel -- they don't arrange pickups. But now, feel more comfortable. I will simply walk outside (assertively) through the masses, and find a cab in parking lot.

Or take the bus for 2EGP. Much more interesting contrast to bring you back down to earth at the end of a DONE
