Accuring AA miles on CX metal LONE RTW

Hello all,

Trying to get around the fact that one cannot accrue AA miles on CX metal.

When booking a LONE using my AAdvantage number, I could book an AA code share on CX metal (e.g., AA 6092 BKK to HKG) and still accrue the full AA miles?

Sorry if this is a duplicate posting!

Thanks in advance!

If you are on an AA-coded ticket, you'll be issued miles as per an AA flight. However, typically the local codeshares in Asia are only accessible as part of an international AA itinerary -- don't know if you'll be able to book them on an RTW.

You won't be able to book solely AA flight numbered CX flights if you are not connecting onwards to the USA. (Not even to Canada).

I am the only one who doesn't get this statement? Last year, I made EXP flying predominantly in CX metal.

Not on LONEx's you didn't. For the vast majority of the world who fly in economy only YBH on CX earn AAdvantage miles/points.

Pickles - regrettably to my ears you are beginning to sound a bit much like skye

No, not on a LONEx, never bought one, although I've considered it. And do you mean Dr. Pickles and mr. skye? As long as I don't sound too much like BWatson I think I'm still safe. Muaaaaahaaaaa muaaaaaahaaaa!

Other than buying a more expensive ticket there is not much that you can do. In fact, that's the way they wanted it to work.

Well, what I can do is purchase a ticket on * Alliance. For my $, still not worth paying for the DONE. * has a superior network in Asia anyway, and I will accrue full miles on all segments, none of this 25% on BA, 50% on QF stuff.

Thanks for all the help.

I notice that you are AA Platinum. If you go with Star Alliance, won't you be missing out on all the elite bonuses and lounge access? I assume you don't have Star Alliance Gold status. Are you sure you want to give up lounge access while traveling round the world in economy class?

Also, you may also want to keep in mind that you can earn full mileage flying from Asia to Europe on Finnair. Just a suggestion....

You do have a choice in air travel and you made it. I think that I'll stick with OW though.

platinum AA but put miles for sectors with QF

along the same lines, if a plat AA member on RTW puts the CX sectors into a qantas account, will they still get access to the lounges at this point?.. ive been denied access when travelling on star rtw when i was putting the miles with an airline with whom i had no status..

Yes, but obviously you will need to have your Plat card with you to prove your status.

The Star RTW fare is mileage based, so it is comparable to the OW [b]Global{/b] Explorer product and not OWE. You get double the mileage on an LONE5 than the most expensive Star RTW, depending on your routing. As for the Global Explorer product (or the Circle fare products), the rules and mileage accrual is different from OWE, you'd have to check the current rules whether they are better for you. Details of the various alternatives are at http://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn/qf/fares/global
