Question First Class OW v Business Class OW

Kia Ora from New Zealand!!

Please be patient with my maybe seemingly basic question!!

I am looking to but a OW ticket but not sure if First Class is worth teh extra money as it seems that it can be difficult to actually get a seat on first class ( i have been told that not all first class seats are allocated to OW ticketholders, also, many airlines or journeys do not have first class seats!) .

My itinery looks something like this!

Auckland - Sydney-Tokyo-Hong Kong- Singapore- kula lumpur- Bangkok - Dubai - London ( some of europe too ) - 2 stops in Canda, 3 stops in usa, 3 stops in South America and then Easter Island and back to Auckland!

Is this a viable route?

Would I be better off with a Busness Class Ticket???

If you are still reading this ......THANK YOU!!

ALL COMMENTS AND HELP TRULLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi buddhaman and welcome to FT.

The difference between F and J, other than costs should be determined by what you want to get out of the trip (as well as routing).

If your priority is to visit all of the places you've listed in a way which is more comfortable, I'd save the dosh you would've paid for F and stay in nicer hotels.

The F cabin tends to only be available on the major routes, otherwise you're restricted to a 2-cabin service, despite paying for a F ticket. Eg from your routing it's J / Y only between AKL-SYD, SYD-NRT at the very least. You can get around this through indirect routings but that'll eat up more of your available segments (1 flight = 1 segment).

Also keep in mind that some routes (eg between North and South America using LA or AA) offer a pretty archaic premium product.

As for your proposed routing, it looks like you'll be well over the 20 segments limit that OW tickets are restrcited to, so some simplification is needed.

You'll want to consider joining a frequent flyer program, if you aren't already a member of one, with a trip like yours you should easily be able to come up with a routing which qualifies you for QF Platinum, for example.

It takes a while to get your head around all of the quirks of OW tickets. Take some time to read back on posts here and use the search function, then come back with some questions and let the experts help.

Good luck with your trip planning.

Have you a list on "must see" places and a 2nd tier list "visit if it works out" places?

Do you want to maximise miles and tier/status credits and frequent flyer points or have minimum travelling time

Your basic routing is SWP-Asia-Eu-NA-SA-SWP
Other options are allowable
eg SWP-Asia(transit)-Eu-NA(transit)-SA-NA-Asia-SWP
or
SWP-Asia(transit)-Eu-SA-NA-Asia-SWP
or
SWP-Asia-Eu-NA(transit)-SA-NA-SWP

For example selecting a few common NA cities AKL-SYD-NRT-HKG-SIN-KUL-BKK-DXB-LHR-YYZ-DFW-LAX-SCL-IPC-AKL will not comply Many problems. If you start adding segments in Europe, NA & SA you will exceed the 20 segment limit.

In Asia its Cathay Pacific (CX) hubbing of Hong Kong and the odd QF & BA flight.
Have not seen a KUL-BKK or BKK-DXB on any Oneworld carrier.
Not sure in SIN-KUL is available, but its so close its the waste of a segment. Take the train or buy a airline ticket locally

Dubai is usually done from London (LHR-DXB-LHR) on BA or from Helsinki (HEL-DXB-HEL) on Finnair.

In North America can only go on American Airlines (AA). To get to 2 Canadian cities probably need to go via USA. 6 flights are allowed in North America.

Easter Island (IPC) is a must go place. Cannot do SCL-IPC-AKL. Only way to Easter Island is SCL-IPC-SCL.

Getting any class of travel (A, D, or L) from SCL to AKL is difficult. Many people have been forced to go via USA due to lack of seat availability

Have a good read on the posts below 100's about RTW's itineraries

One World Distances has some routes but will not 100% accurate now

CX flies BKK-DXB (via BOM) 4 times a week.
