You picked up the article that LAN is codesharing with KE?
And what would you say about the other codeshare deals that are not alliance related? eg CX/SA between JNB-HKG, QF/AF between CDG-HKG, QF/SA between JNB-PER/SYD.
There are other deals besides alliance based cooperation, you know. It's not the end of the world!

Yeah you're probably right on that one. Maybe it's just nothing. But I heard some noise that Korean isn't to happy in Skyteam. As for the SA-deals they have been dubbing whether to stay within *A or to move to Skyteam or Oneworld. SA is making love to everybody these days.

Quotes from the article -
"LAN, which already has flights throughout the Americas, and to Europe, Australia, and Asia, has said it wants to take advantage of the new trade links with Asia to move into that region."
"LAN is also exploring the possibility of adding a Sydney-Bali flight, an official from Indonesia said over the weekend"
Do they get anyone who knows anything about aviation to read these things before they publish them? What flights does LAN have to Asia and the idea of LAN flying Sydney-Bali is just ridiculous.

. Its a codeshare though.
Chile's Pres Lagos: Lan Could Extend Air Routes To Bali
SANTIAGO (Dow Jones)--Chilean airline Lan SA (LFL) could extend its routes to the Indonesian island of Bali, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos said Wednesday during his state visit to that country.
There is "an understanding between Lan and Garuda, the airline of Indonesia, to study the possibility of sharing flights from Auckland to Bali and from Sydney," Lagos said in a statement distributed by his office in Santiago.
The two countries will work to broaden air connections between each other, he added. Lan currently flies to Auckland in New Zealand and Sydney in Australia.
The company is expanding its presence in the South American market, and is eyeing possible takeover targets in Argentina and Colombia. It has already set up local units in the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and Peru.

GuyBetsy,as ever, can be relied on to add some insight here. Though millionmiler's post amused me. From Skyteam to Garuda... well I'd feel spoiled flying on these routes (let alone mainline LA).

having just recently tested a taser gun (on myself that is), I can guarantee it would be at LEAST well done. these things are powerful
as for the OT: even though the annoucement has been overinterpreted by OP, it goes to show how fluky these alliances are. i would not be surprised if we say one or two deintegrating within a couple of years. they just don't add to the bottom line.
