Question request for help from you experts...

I'm trying to book the following DONE4 ticket:

WDH-JNB Comair
JNB-LHR BA
LHR-BOS BA
BOS-ORD AA
ORD-LAX AA
LAX-SYD QF
SYD-JNB QF
JNB-WDH Comair

1. My agent says that you can only do a DONE4 from JNB and that I'll have to purchase a separate WDH-JNB-WDH ticket, even though it is served by a Comair (British Air Franchise). Yet, elsewhere on this forum, it states that you can use Comair in RTW tickets? Can any one point me toward the rule?

2. The BOS-ORD and ORD-LAX are served in two class segments. Some of you on this forum state that with a DONE4, you can fly in the "first" class of the AA flight on the domestic routes, when there is no business. She insists, she can only book me in economy on the two cabin AA flights. Can you point me toward the rule?

3. I'm a BA EC member. Can I use points to upgrade the QF LAX-SYD from Business to First using a DONE4 ticket? Can you point me toward the rule?

FOR FLIGHTS WHERE NO FIRST OR BUSINESS CLASS IS aVAILABLE OR OFFERED FIRST CLASS PASSENGERS WILL TRAVEL IN BUSINESS / ECONOMY CLASS AND BUSINESS CLASS PASSENGERS WILL TRAVEL IN ECONOMY CLASS. THE FARE FOR THE HIGHEST CLASS USED APPLIES AND NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN.

EXCEPTION - FOR SERVICES WITHIN/BETWEEN THE USA AND CANADA WHERE NO BUSINESS CLASS IS OFFERED BUSINESS CLASS PASSENGERS MAY BOOK AND TRAVEL IN FIRST CLASS SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY.

No. You can only upgrade using Miles on flights booked directly with BA either on the website or by telephone.

The answer is in the Booking Codes rules, in the REQUIRED INVENTORY NOT AVAILABLE section:

You might seriously consider finding an agent who is more familiar with the rules. If such a basic thing eludes him, he's not being much help.

I agree...but...I'm living in Namibia, and the selection isn't that great...She's the best I've been able to find, but still end up doing most of the "work" for her...but thanks

If I may suggest, perhaps you might try corresponding with an agent (or even directly with airlines) in RSA. IIRC, all calls to BA in RSA are redirected to COMAIR, so that might not be the best option... but if you can handle the phone charges to RSA, try the Qantas phone line in Jo'burg after 5.30pm, and you'll get redirected to the call centre in Australia for free. IME the QF agents are MUCH more familiar with the OWE rules than the Comair agents (or even the BA agents that I've come across).

Also, there's a QF agent in Windhoek (I forget which street its on, but IIRC its in the same building as the TAAG (Angolan Airlines) office, if you know where that is. I'm doubt you'll have much luck booking your ticket through that office, as they likely won't be any more familiar with the OWE rules than the Comair office, but if you organise your booking via the QF phone line in Jo'burg, you could organise to collect and pay for your ticket at the office in downtown WDH.

I haven't done my homework, but iirc ex-Namibia fares are comparable to ex-RSA, i.e. quite high. Does it make sense to begin ex-CAI? There are a couple of agents there - Emeco and BA - that are reasonably good at these. Remember that you pay a penalty in the starting continent in that you only get 2 stopovers, and can't buy extra segments. If you start in Africa, you only can have 2 African stops and 4 segments. If you start in CAI you can buy two extra African segments and stop as many places as you have segments, but now are restricted in your European travels (CAI = Europe for this).
