BA Silver/Gold - Should I do Something About It?

Hi,

Now that I have got my ticket (DONE4) with the help of this board (thanks) I realised that I will not be flying 4 Qualifying flights to be able to earn my Silver or later Gold EC.

Should I care? Apart from having lots of unused/wasted tier points (about 1200) Is this reason enough to sneak in a quick J return in Europe (as advised on the BA Forum)?

I ask as I am still a Blue and if I do this J Europe run I will be elligible for a Silver for two years or a Gold - Is this worth 200 pounds?

I forsee flying mostly economy after my DONE4 - What would you do?

Thanks

J

No doubt about It. If your going to stick with the BA EC you should. You'll kick yourself later if you don't and your travelling Y on OW.

For lounge access, if for nothing else.

BA status runs

Yes, I would do it. Alternatively, ditch BA and go to another FFP where you might get status more easily for your RTW, such as QF.

As for the status run, it is all about minimum spend for your qualifying flights, not about maximising status points whilst you are at it. Therefore, H class might be the way to go for you, unless I class is on offer.

It may be that you want to do something like GLA to LON at some point, why not do GLA-MAN-LHR/LGW for your two sectors, MAN is OK to sit in for a bit and wait (but the lounge is great).

I class Faro is around 200 return off LGW. If you post your constraints and your starting point then the QR (qualifying run) is on.

I would also check all the segments you have ticketed and see if there is a BA code-share on any of them which you can use - this would be free as not a re-issue. And in any case if your itin allows, I think a reissue of your DONE4 is cheaper than an MR for 200 pounds....and if you can get the same effect or better..........
