Latest rumours within *A

Looks like *A is likely to be rolling out mileage upgrades across all members .

That would definitely be an advantage over OW. What's the likelihood that OW will match? (I fear I know the answer ).

oneworld's been losing out for years now. a lot of media hype and marketing, very little substance. wouldn't be surprised if it is dissolved sooner or later. even skyteam has adopted a more active and integrative approach lately.

For many travelers, that's absolutely true. For those who fly AA internationally, the latter's policy of allowing miles-based upgrades on any fare continues to be a huge plus compared to any current or proposed *A upgrade scheme.

The most important advantages to me regarding OW vs. Star is the lounge benefits (First Class entry) and the airlines involved (CX/BA/QF/AA/LA are the top airlines in their regions, IMO). Star definately has better coverage and more partners.

Except if you want to get from Australia to South America. (*A via N America vs. direct codeshare SYD/AKL-SCL offered by LA/QF). Makes *A RTW tickets very difficult to work with (given mileage limits) until a more direct routing is available.

Anyone notice how OneWorld should be read as the One Anglo-American World. CX/QF/AA/BA being in the English-speaking aviation sphere and LA being under the American sphere of influence (read: Pinochet)?

Maybe it's time for some diversity.

Have you tried getting an award from SYD-LAX as an AA member? It's very, very, very difficult supposedly.

What, you want to invite AeroFlot to join OW instead of SkyTeam?

At least AY brings some Finno-Ugrian exotism with good routes to Asia
