DGLOB34 v DONE4
I'm currently booking a ex-OSL RTW that goes OSL-LHR-JFK-PHX-LAS-DFW-BOS-LAX-MEL-SYD-SIN-DOH-DXB-DOH-LHR-OSL. I'm stopping in JFK, LAS, BOS, MEL, SYD, SIN, DXB, and LHR.
After having a couple of issues where the rate desk sent the ticket back, the third RTW agent I spoke to at AA converted the ticket from a DONE4 to a DGLOB34, saying it was "the same price". I know it's not the same price, but that the two base prices are close enough that it's not a significant difference.
Is there any reason to prefer one or the other with this sort of routing?

On a quick look can't see why you route in not a valid DONE4. Maybe an issue with the USA flights. Your itinerary has 15 segments ONE allows 16, so that's OK
A map from the Great Circle Mapper - Great Circle Mapper
DGLOB34 are distance based and have more allowable airlines. But you are not using those

Global Explorer
Distance-Based Air Travel
For an even wider choice of where to travel, book your Round The World trip via Global Explorer, which grants you access to an even more extensive list of airlines, including Aer Lingus, Bangkok Airways, oneworld connectpartner Fiji Airways, Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan, Jetstar Pacific, WestJet, and Qantas code-share flights operated by Air Tahiti Nui.

In my opinion if your itinerary is a valid Oneworld Explorer AND a valid Global Explorer, then there is no reason to favour one over the other.
(I am part way through my first ever Global Explorer - chosen because I am visiting six continents for the price of four
)
the major differences between the Oneworld and Global Explorers are:
Base Fares:
Additionally, are you aware that Qantas flies JFK-SYD direct? (It is via AKL)
(I am part way through my first ever Global Explorer - chosen because I am visiting six continents for the price of four
)the major differences between the Oneworld and Global Explorers are:
Base Fares:
Oneworld - base fare depends on how many continents are in the itinerary
Global - base fare depends on the mileage (and for premium cabin there is only one allowed mileage - 34,000)
Generally the DGLOB34 has the same base fare as the DONE4 (they are slightly different ex-Norway)
Stopovers/Flight Segments:Global - base fare depends on the mileage (and for premium cabin there is only one allowed mileage - 34,000)
Generally the DGLOB34 has the same base fare as the DONE4 (they are slightly different ex-Norway)
Oneworld limits the number of flight segments in a continent (max of 4, except for Nth America where 6 is allowed)
Global limits the number of stopovers per continent (max of 4 for each continent)
Trans-continental flights:Global limits the number of stopovers per continent (max of 4 for each continent)
Oneworld has limits on trans-continental flights (in Nth Am and Australia)
Global does not
Your itinerary is a valid Global, but an invalid Oneworld - it has two trans-cons in Nth America where only one is allowed (you have JFK-PHX and BOS-LAX)Global does not
Additionally, are you aware that Qantas flies JFK-SYD direct? (It is via AKL)

Thank you for this info. I am aware of the JFK-SYD flight, but it doesn't have any availability on the date I'm looking for. There's availability the day before on JFK-SYD, but when I try to do BOS-JFK-SYD, no availability pops up on an AA/QF combination. I'll keep monitoring!

I ended up booking OSL-LHR-JFK/BOS-PHX-LAS-DFW-BOS-LAX-MEL-SIN-DOH-DXB-DOH-LHR-OSL for about $7.4k. Taxes were a little more than I was hoping, but I suspect I could reduce it a bit by flying OSL-HEL-JFK or flying direct from DOH-OSL instead of flying through LHR.
