D class booking experiences on AS

According to EF, booking D class on AS long haul flights is odd to say the least. Plenty of D class in one direction, but none in the other direction. I wonder if it is due to being too far in advance. Considering LAX-SJO/LIR and USA trans-con flights. Has anyone booked AS recently?

I have not booked D but have been looking at it since AS became OW as this is the code for a OWE DONEX ticket. Always see the same thing. Lots of D one way but none the other. It does seem to open up closer in.
