Question regarding booking last-minute code-share

Hi,

A friend of mine told me that you can book last-minute code-share flights at a really cheap price in economy, business, or first-class.

What she said is that I can get dirt-cheap tickets one or two days before departure because code-share flights are not "reserved". Not sure what that means, but I have always been looking for a way to travel last-minute at ridiculously cheap prices.

Does anyone know how this works? I am still waiting to hear back from her, but would like to know if this is a world-wide phenomenon or Japan-only as she is based in Tokyo.

Thanks.

Alex
