OWE Routing?

I'm doing a OWE for business last stopover in AKL and wanted to catch QF107 to JFK rather than having to change terminals in LAX over to AA. Is the following routing legal? Is there a rule about trans-tasman crossings?

Sorry if this has been discussed, I searched and did not see and posts about trans-tasman crossings.

....SIN-MEL-AKL-SYD-LAX-JFK.

Should be no problem. I have done AKL-SYD-JFK and WLG-SYD-JFK several times on OWE's. SYD-JFK is one flight number and counts as one segment. You can stopover in SYD if you want.

Thanks for the info jrussell. I guess I'll get to take the big ship all the way home.

One of the rules is only one intercontinental departure and one intercontinental arrival is permitted in each continent

Below is from CX rules of about 6 months ago
Only one intercontinental departure and one intercontinental arrival is permitted in each continent.
Exception 1 - Two permitted in North America when one is a transfer without stopover
Exception 2 - Two intercontinental departures and arrivals are permitted in Asia, when one is transfer without stopover or on direct single plane service, between the Southwest Pacific and Europe.
Exception 3 - For travel to/from or via Ghana/Nigeria two permitted in Europe when one is a transfer without stopover between Ghana/Nigeria and another continent.
You could go
-SIN-HKG-AKL-MEL-SYD-JFK-

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying... I don't see how SIN-MEL-AKL-SYD-LAX-JFK breaks the rule you are quoting.

SIN is in Asia
MEL, AKL and SYD are in SWP
LAX & JFK are in NA

what's the problem?

MEL-AKL-SYD breaks the rule that says you can only cross the tasman once. You can only go one way between Australia and NZ, never both ways.

Flying from hong kong to AKL and then to australia is a good solution perhaps, I'm going to try it anyway.

Am I blind and don't see the rule or is the rule not there?

Either way, never heard of it before.

I have never heard of this rule either, and it isn't in the rules as published by Cathay. Please could you provide a verbatim quote from a reliable source of the rules?

I believe the problem is if you ORIGINATE in the SWP then you cannot return to the country of origin. In other words you cannot originate MEL and do MEL-AKL-SYD. If you don't originate in SWP I think you're fine with two Trans-Tasmans.

If originating in Oz, there is an exemption to the "can't depart twice from country of origin" rule if going to POM. The second departure can only be a transfer.
