Old CPT origination prices

I know this answer exists in the archives, but I have had zero luck finding it. Does anyone know what the RAND price for a CPT originating RTW AONE6 and AONE5 was on 1/15/02 before the massive increase of last year?

I would be very surprised if that were the case. Perhaps 50190 and 45780 respectively.

Yup, I'm looking at a AONE6 that I just re-issued this morning and the fare line says ZAR 50190. You doin' a reserach project, Rich?

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

It's so funny, I had exactly this song in mind when I read the first post in this thread!

The lady at the AA CTO where I was re-issuing today said "Z-A-R 50190-- how much is that in US dollars?"

I said "please, I don't want to discus it."

I had some great times off this fare. And the ex-BUD, ex-ARN, ex-sez deals before South Afirca. Sadly however I need to drop South America so I wanted to get an idea of the my expected refund.

Will be interestng to see what AA thinks I am entitled to.

Well, when you bought your ticket the Rand was trading at about 12 to 1 to the US$. Now it is about 8 to 1. Thus, you paid a US$375 premium for the extra continent but you should get US$550 in refund (not including credit card foreign exchange fees). Let us know what AA does but I'd push for the refund in Rands if that is what you were originally charged.

Gee Mr Lond

If getting married means having to drop the bi-annual visit to South America I think I'd stay single (as if I have a choice in the matter)

As for the refund, if you ticketed in the US and paid in $US I wouldn't be surprised if they said "You paid R50190 which was $4182. The 5 continent fare was R45780 which is $5722. So you owe us $1540

lol, so apply the old exchange rate to the amount paid and the new exchange rate to the re-issue. this would be like the time i tried to drop two countries and was told i needed to pay an extra 108usd in taxes.

i will be sure to let you know the results. If all else fails a quick mileage run to EZE may be in my future.

Now if it was a STAR RTW I'm sure you would find a way of getting Lufthansa to route you from Washington via Koln to Buenos Aires

Total refund for droping first class from MIA - EZE - SCL - JFK was 244USD!!!

AA calculated (50190 - 45780)/13.12 = 336.00 minus the 75 dollar fee.

Yes i know the numbers do not add up but the agent said it was taxes so I just gave in. More taxes and I dropped 2 countries!! Whatever!?!?

Sadly the process took more than 3 hours and AA's first offer was not to charge me as the fare had gone up since I purchased. The second offer was as above, but when they printed the ticket they forgot 1 or my remaining NA segments.

Of course they cannot simply edit what they had done and add that missed segment. They had to retype the whole thing and the new tariff agent had to review everything.

The reissue process is horrible and none of the agents had any interest in doing the correct thing and refunding taxes that were due. I no longer feel guilty about some of the things i have gotten away with in the past.

So there was a specific, discernible, distinct point in time at which you did?

good point, but when i consider what others have done to take advantage of airline agents lack of knowledge on these rtw rules, i feel like an angel.
