RTW 2002 (opinion please...)

Hello all! It's time for my 2002 RTW!!!

Planned itin:

(Best price): Ex-Korea

ICN-HKG (CX) Transit (Asia 1)
HKG-NRT (CX) Stopover in NRT (Asia 2)
NRT-HKG (CX) Transit (Asia 3)
HKG-LHR (CX) Transit
LHR-MAD (IB) Transit
MAD-IBZ (IB) Stopover in IBZ
IBZ-MAD (IB) Transit
MAD-CDG or ZRH (IB) Transit
CDG or ZRH-ORD (AA) Transit
ORD-YOW (AA) Stopover in YOW
SURFACE
YYZ-ORD (AA) Transit
ORD-NRT (AA) Stopover in NRT
NRT-HKG (CX) Transit (Asia 4)
HKG-ICN (CX) END (Aisa 5 - But it's the end????)

1: 4 AA METAL segments. Nessesity to re-qual for AA PLAT. Would the MAD-ORD IB operated AA codeshare count as a qualifying segament for the 4 AA segments? Has to be METAL, right?

2: 2 stopovers in continent of orgin. This is regardless of begining or ending of trip, correct? This is a TOTAL tally?

3: 4 segments in ASIA, with no chance to purchase additional segments (rules, rules, rules.....). Is this ITIN valid? I am confused of the "IN" part of the wording. Does HKG-LHR count as a "IN" continent (Asia) segment? See my Aisa 1~5) in brackets....

just looking for opinions.....

2: Correct. It's total, and doesnt matter if its at the beginning or the end.

3: Too many Asian segments. You need to go from Tokyo to London on BA, rather than connecting through Hong Kong. Heard the NRT-LON and HKG-LON are two of BAs best routes.

Flight: American Airlines operated by Japan Airlines flight 7228 on a Boeing 747 Jet Days Operating

Depart: Incheon Int Seoul, Korea Repub (ICN) at 1:35pm
Arrive: Tokyo, Japan Narita (NRT) at 3:50pm
Stops: None

Codeshares are a no no right?

In that case, correct. Codeshares are allowed only by the other carriers that are allowed. So you can go from Los Angeles to Santiago on either the Lan Chile number or the AA number operated by Lan Chile.

Understood. Not much chance of me getting to NRT directly from ICN then. I'll get back with any fresh ideas when I get them.....

Any AA coded flights count towards the minimum "4 AA segments" rule to (re-)qual for AAdv elite status.

As Darren points out though, in the case of oneworld RTWs, there are restrictions on what codeshares are valid... generally codeshares operated by other oneworld carriers are ok while codeshares operated by other airlines are not.

Thanks, I finally got the codeshare info right, and the AA plat requal rules. Guess I will take a few puddle jumpers en-route with AA.

Segements (esp. Continent of orgin (Asia)): Ok, two examples I would like clarification on >

1. ICN-HKG with transit to NRT. This is 2 segments in Asia right?

2. ICN-HKG with a transit to LHR. This is 2 segments with ONE counting against my Asia segment rules right (International departure)?. When I travel (leaving, arriving) between continents where does the segment get lodged?

3. Does the start/finish ORGIN airport dep./arr. count as a segment? (i.e. First leg - ICN-HKG, and last leg - HKG-ICN)

1. Yes.

2. 1 Asia segment. Intercontinental segments do not count against your continental segment limits.

3. Yes. ICN-HKG and HKG-ICN are both counted against your Asia segmenrt limit of 4.

It's still a great deal. For about the cost of a RT ticket in business from the U.S. to Europe or Asia, I'm currently on a RTW trip originated in AKL and flying 83,000+ miles, almost exclusively in first class.

AKL? Where is that?

Options: Berlin (TXL) to Chicago (ORD). How can I do it? I can get IN via BCN on IB, but how in the devil do I get out? I know BA has tons of Associated Airlines you can use when you get their OWE, but if I am on Cathay stock can I do the same? Quoted from their page:

P.S. See how there is no CX mentioned? Nice miss there.....

Um.....because CX doesn't have any affiliates, let alone ones that are allowed under the OWE. For the same reason that AY and EI are not listed. BA should fly in and out of Berlin. And AKL is Auckland.

Darren, nice one! Now I understand. I was assuming that CX would at least have a null entry as a OW carrier. Your point is taken.
