Lan Pass RTW

This isn't something I would personally do, but I wanted to post it for anyone who wants to do a very long, cheapish RTW and is willing to give up the miles to do it.

I was cruising through the Lan Chile website, and I happened to notice that they have a OW award that is 56,000km and more. All the other programs I have seen stop at 35,000 miles.

Anyway, with the starwood/randy petersen relief fund promo, you get 2500 starpoints for $60, which is 5000 Lan Chile kilometers, and you get an additional 25% for each 20,000 starpoints you transfer. The award is 520,000 kilometers in first class or 370,000 in biz.

Presumably, you can start from wherever you want. So for the first award, you would need 84 subscriptions (520000/1.25/2500/2), which would be 5040usd. Biz would need 60 subscriptions (370000/1.25/2500/2), which would cost 3600usd.

For someone starting in the US, that would be a saving of over $6000 in first and $5400 in biz, if you go by the price of a 6 continent fare. I guess the question would be whether the accrued miles would be worth the $6000 or $5400 to someone.
