Final OWE Question Before Departure

Hi All,

I am about to depart on my OWE. Thanks for all your help in panning and booking it. FYI, my intinerary is as follows:

March 11: ARN-LHR-DXB (BA)
March 12: DXB-LHR (BA)
March 15: FRA-DFW-SCL (AA)
March 17: SCL-IPC (LAN)
March 18: IPC-SCL-LAX (LAN)
March 19: LAX-ORD (AA)
March 28: ORD-SEA (AA)
April 1: SEA-ORD (AA)
April 12: ORD-SFO (AA)
April 13: SFO-MIA (AA)
April 14: MIA-ORD (AA)
Aug. 2: JFK-HKG (CX)
Aug. 4: HKG-NRT (CX)
Aug. 8: NRT-HKG (CX)
Aug. 9: HKG-DPS (CX)
Aug. 12: DPS-HKG (CX)
Aug. 13: HKG-BKK (CX)
Aug. 18: BKK-SYD (QF)
Aug. 22: SYD-AYQ (QF)
Aug. 24: AYQ-PER (QF)
Aug. 28: PER-MEL (QF)
Aug. 30: MEL-SYD (QF)
Aug. 31: SYD-HKG (CX)
Sept. 1: HKG-LHR (CX)
Sept. 1: LHR-ARN (BA)

Purchased in First Class before the October fare increase.

My final, final question for you all is:

Will BA let me stand by for an earlier flight from ARN to LHR on the first day of my OWE, even though I am booked on a later flight? I know that actually changing the flight will result in a fare increase, so I don't want to do that.

Thanks!

Have a good trip. My OWE starts next month ex-CPT. Since I am doing the LHR-DXB-LHR shuffle at the begining of the trip, I would be most interested in how that part of the trip went. I assume that you are not planning on leaving the airport.

my personal opinion: yes, they will.

in fact, give them a call, you might even be able to change it.
the rule could be interpreted such that "date is fixed, but time cam be changed", but as you know, interpretation is based on your luck.

Your trip looks great, PresRDC. What agency did you use to book it? I am starting to plan one of these for early next year ex-Melbourne and would appreciate any advice. Hope you have a wonderful time!

Wow. 28 segments and 76,507 miles (plus 61 to round up the MEL-SYD segment to 500). Amazing, and enjoy!!

aussiemate,

The ticketing has been a story in and of itself.

It was originally ticketed through Rosenbluth Travel (my Dad's company had a corporate account with them). However, I decided to add the run through South America a few months ago, but by this time, my Dad's company no longer worked with Rosenbluth, so I had to go to AA and have them do the re-ticketing. Unforatunately, South Bend is ninety miles from ORD (the nearest ticketing location) and I had to make two trips to get the ticket re-issued. Now, as I made some date and time changes, I need to get parts of the ticket re-written (but not, thankfully, reissued).

headinclouds,

You are correct, I am not leaving the airport. I have been told that the transfer will not be difficult to make and I am hopeful that BA will issue me both boarding passes in ARN or LHR. On his OWE trip last year, tfung did the rapid LHR-DXB-LHR turnaround and seemed to have no real problems. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the tip and the information. You can expect detailed trip reports as I go along.

I will look forward to extensive trip report, if you ever have time. BTW, are you a student or professor at ND?

The ticket does not need reissued or rewritten for date changes. And for a RTW, "parts" of the ticket are not redone, it is an all or nothing deal.

STAM4NICK,

I am actually a law student at ND. I also have my undergraduate degree from ND. My father is a 1969 graduate of ND and my sister is a senior at ND. It is the family school.

I thought that I didn't have to get the ticket redone, but everytime I ask the AA RTW people (different agents), they all say it is necessary. I would very much prefer not to have to do it.

ignore AA agents

BA agents always put a sticker on the coupon and let you go. same day flight should have no problem at all

Enjoy your trip! Just one question. How did you manage 5 segments in Asia?

In Australia, our company use Amex Travel and they have done 10+ RTW trips for me in the past few years and have been great. They know the rules and nothing has been a problem. But this will probably depend on the actual agent you deal with. We have our own branch of Amex Travel located in our Sydney office, so all they do is corporate travel.
