747-400 back on PER-SYD

It appears that QF has a new schedule that operates many many 747's on domesic routes including the SYD - PER route and MEL - PER route.

However, they seem to be sold as two class planes. Does anyone know how QF assigns (if at all) the First class compartments on these flights?

Most likely as J to qualify to sit in the First Class section of the plane. The Business Class seats might be regulated to people with full Y tickets.

But that flight is a red-eye from PER to SYD!

It seems to vary by day. There are 2 747-400 flights on the 16th of Nov. Even without the F seat, the J class seat on the 747-400 will be far better then the 737 or 767!!

When using 744 on true domestic flights (ie QF400 and above), they are sold as two-class, with P and upper deck cabins as J, and the lower desk J sold as Y.
So if booked in Y, as for a seat in rows 23 to 27 and you will enjoy the flight more!
Unfortunately I got a 74L (747-SP) MEL-PER, so had to stick with a Y seat. But I did get to say a last farewell to VH-EAA before it is scheduled to leave service next month (wonder if QF will hang onto them for a bit longer now?).

Cheers,
NM

Thanks NM,

Any idea of how to secure a seat in the P Class prior to arrival at the airport? Can they do it in the "CTOs" the day before or any such thing?

rich

ps. For mileage runners the AKL - PER 1 flight number flight has returned!!

You would need to be booked in J and have a preference for lower deck in your profile. The only lower deck J seating on the domestic 744 is the P seating.
Good luck,
NM
