I actually had a hand on one of the JV contract. I have to keep quiet thus I am not going to details. But what I can tell you is that, to sign one JV contract requires both party fully committed to each other, somewhat like a marriage certificate in real term for your understanding. Once JV is signed the only way out is for both party to reach mutual agreement. Early termination provisions only cover very extreme situations (e.g. bankrupt, withdrawn from business, legislation changes...etc). To join another alliance is never the excuse of mutual understanding.

That's an absurd assertion and doesn't reflect the reality or law of contracts. I highly doubt your "hand" was substantive.

I wonder if AY will have the balls to start HEL-KUL. It would be a no-brainer if AY hadn't started HEL-SIN a few weeks ago.

AY was to extend its BKK flights onwards to KUL sometime last year but cancelled its plans at the last moment. Wonder if they knew then that MH will join OW.

I don't think extending any service to KUL would make much sense as AY killed all their intra-Asian flights a few years ago. AY currently interlines JetStar's flights out of SIN but imho MH might provide a better partner in SE Asia. It is a completely different thing if AY could sustain enough traffic to serve both SIN and KUL from HEL.

What's about AY codesharing with AF ? AA codeshared with Swissair for a long time even if in Qualiflyer. :o

Nothing to be too excited about. It happens :p

I'm not saying airlines should not code-sharing with fellows in other alliances, but the AA-SR partnership was something different. Even though most airlines that had once joined Qualiflyer are now *A members, they were pretty close to OW in the past.

It looks like Oneworld lives up to its name as a quality based alliance, with MH on board Oneworld has 3 5* airlines, now it's time to scoop up Hainan for the 4th. If OW is going for HU it's gonna be one long battle for CX.

Let's hope. HU might prevent the almost complete absence of OW on the charts in this article: http://www.centreforaviation.com/new...rn-china/page1

well I flew biz class on MH last week, twice. Their regional product has little legspace - god knows what economy is like. The service was not in the same class as CX and the food I could donate to someone I do not like.

Did you fly on a narrow bodied aircraft? That would be the reason.. and most likely that would be similar to AA's domestic product in F. The difference would be that almost everyone on AA would have been upgraded from coach.

On short haul economy regional flights on MH, seats are comfortable. And the snack box is quite nice.. usually a lemak (coconut curry) sort of dish.

Well, AY have killed HEL-SIN before...

And yes, it would be nice with HEL-KUL, maybe we'll see this move in W2012?

I had no such issue with MH Y from KUL-SIN last year.

And MH long-haul is pretty good. 34" pitch, as with Thai, but with AVOD, if I recall.

I actually found the 777 economy seat more comfortable than the 747 business class one, so long as nobody was in the middle.

Maybe if it's on MH metal? Also some new codeshare destination options would be available for MH: Apart from the obvious Scandinavian capitals also your homebase GOT and of course BMA, the Stockholm city airport. Maybe even St.Petersburg and the Baltic capital cities.

If they did daily redeyes in both directions similar to the present AY HKG rotation it could bcomee quite an interesting route.
