They were...and have been trying to join ST for a long time, but ST decided they were NOT Trashy enough to qualify! So, ST picked neighbouring Garuda instead, a carrier not long ago banned from flying into the EU.

Seriously though, in a recent interview the outgoing MD of SkyTrash said as much: that the existing ST carriers would only permit new carriers which brought value to their own position to join the alliance: http://www.airtransportnews.aero/pri...ysis.pl?id=980

How could MH, a carrier rated as superior to the existing ST carrriers [e.g Skytrax rating] bring value to them? There is a PhD thesis to the answer, but in short existing ST carriers saw MH as a threat.

Thanks a lot, Austinrunner. Looks quite nice regarding my preferred destinations in those parts of the World.

MH will bring many interesting destinations to the OW map.

Not to mention the CPT EZE...Now we have many Indonesia destinations including Batam. Many Malaysia cities as well as Angor Wat and Koh Samui! Kunming and Guangzhou in China from places other than HKG...MH's India network will match Kingfisher perfectly well!

Question is, what FireFly will fit into the picture?

kamchatsky Jun 6, 2011 7:36 am

I always thought MH is a good fit for OW. I am very surprised that AF resisted MH joining ST for so long at the first place.

MH obviously does not want to play second fiddle to GA/VN after they stole its limelight in joining Skyteam. So Oneworld must have been persuing them intently. I wonder if we can see QF or Jetstar making a comeback to KUL?

You meant '...with SQ, TG in Star Alliance,...'

Great news, especially the EZE-CPT route. I guess the African exception that allows 2 entries in Europe may be on the way out.

Great news! Too bad it took 12 years :-)

CPT-EZE?!? That is awesome!:D

For people who'd never flown on MH before... you'd be pleasantly surprised! MH's inflight service rivals that of SQ .. in that they're more personal and not 'robotic'. MH also serves better satay than SQ. And in giving out more generous portions too! All in all, I'm looking forward to flying on MH under the OW flag.

Having said that, I better cash my miles on Virgin Flying Club which I've been saving to fly on MH!

I disagree. As I understand it the Africa exception on the Oneworld Explorer ticket is there because the only Oneworld flights into the countries concerned are from Europe. The fact that there has been no Oneworld flight between Africa and Sth America had nothing to do with it.

The exception is:

JED instead of BAH.

Sorry, but MH Timetable clearly says BAH, but not JED, which is served by CY only. The only exception beeing the latest ME flight out of KUL to AUH, connecting to BAH on codeshare, both flights CY only

Sorry, MH does not operate its own metal to BAH. It codeshares on GF and Etihad. That's what the timetable specifically says.

MH does operate JED <> KUL nonstop using 3-class 744 aircraft but apparently sells only C and Y on that route.

So, we were both wrong.

Found on KLM website that their JV will remain.
So it will be a 'Ménage à trois'

The exception is:

4(e) Only one intercontinental departure and one intercontinental arrival permitted in each continent except as follows:
1.
2.
3. For travel to/from or via Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda two permitted in Europe when one is a transfer without stopover between
Ghana/Nigeria/Kenya/Uganda and another continent

I would agree to your argument, except that Dakar,Senegal and Malbo, Equatorial Guinea have the same problem as for Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda. Yet these countries are not on the exception list. Or is that another quirk of the OW rules.
