OWE question: transfers versus segments

After reading the rules for the OWE RWT ticket I'm confused about the number of segments that would be possible to do. Apparently there is a (rather low) maximum number of segments permitted on each continent. On the other hand, an unlimited number of in-line transfers are permitted. Is it at all possible to do a routing that involves multiple segments (MANY...) on a continent, say a total of 60+ on a single RTW ticket. Of course, I have AA gold status in mind.

How many flown miles have people here been able to do on an RTW ticket?

Thanks!

60 segments would net you Plat status on AA. Also, if you did a long enough RTW in F class, you might be able to make Exec Plat (I think people have done this before).

BTW, do you know of the reduced qualification requirements for Canadian AAdvantage members?

for qualify with RTW, in OW u sd go for mileage run, for *A segment run......

as for how to maximize your RTW miles, i know a few people are planning that.....i believe they would post their itin soon
e.g. US east -- asia -- europe (Middle-east) -- US west would get you 80% to max for a 3 continent RTW.....
(regretably my own RTW are usually less than 1 week, and only 20k miles....i believe you could go for 40k+ in one RTW though)

You could do 60+ segments within a continent but you would have to pay $US100 in economy class for each segment above the 4-6 allowed in the standard RTW fare. So at an extra $US6000 you'd be better off buying another RTW ticket in 1st Class and qualify for Platinum/Executive Platinum on miles/points.
And you can't do this in your continent of origin as you can't buy extra segments there.

110000 miles is about the maximum you can fly on a 6 continent fare although the maximum I've ever had ticketed is about 85000 miles.
